I shot this buck a few years back around the Kamloops area and thought everyone should have a look at what I saw when I walked up to this deer! It was pretty shocking to see the deer covered in all these tumours. Was not taking this deer home, but I did report it too Doug Jury who is a good friend and regional biologist for region 3 and he wished I had brought it too him:eek:. Was not picking it up. Did stink pretty bad also. Has anyone encountered this on any big game animal harvested?

Not on the outside like that but I have found some pretty nasty growths and tumors inside some bucks in the peace country while gutting them.

Can't blame ya for not wanting to handle it. That's some NASTY looking stuff. Did the Bio go up and get it?

I gave Dave Low{bio with Doug up to 10yrs ago} pics of a muley I had filmed with growths all over his face neck and shoulders. He figured it had a virus just like warts in humans and would have been fine to eat.I would have had trouble butchering and eating that little buck if I shot it that fall.RB

I saw a moose once with swamper that had a huge neck tumour. All the skin was gone around it. It was the size of a football hanging on the side of the cow!

Potted a whitetail buck many years ago at the top end of Kootenay Lake near a beaver swamp. Similarly festooned, but the tumors weren't as big as in this photo. Never heard of Fibroma, it scared the hell out of us, just left it for the yotes.

I saw a little spike on Texeda Island with those same Tumors on it. On the rump and inside the legs. Steve

Back to the thread. The animal biology department at TRU in Kamloops are great for taking any unidentified growth or other alien thing from a game animal and ID'ing it. It gives the students valuable experience and can let the hunter know what it is.

Last time I checked the regs said you have to pack out the meat...and I think the idea is you are supposed to eat it. So buck up! A little salt and pepper, quick saute in olive oil and bob's your uncle. Back in the day we were glad for stuff like this!
