I wonder if that eagle is going for an owl lunch with a mouse appetizer.

I watched a golden eagle and a smaller raptor play cat and mouse from high on a cliffside once. They started above me and finished way below me, that eagle was either mad or hungry but the smaller bird kept managing to dodge him. They make a very interesting whooshing sound when they dive.

It was going after the mouse as he has a photo of the Eagle upside down below the owl going after the kill but the shot didn't have the clarity he wanted so wouldn't let me post it !

Either way spectacular photos.

Interesting. Very cool photos.

Owls NEVER seem fussed. Definitely my favourite bird.

Fantastic and exceptionally clear photos!
The best time of year to go after owl pictures is after all the deciduous leaves have left the trees
and you can find solitary coniferous trees, or if you find solitary coniferous trees in the middle of
a small logging slash that hasn't re-grown too much. We used to have great success finding all
manner of owls when we were young. The birds use those solitary trees as resting or sleeping
sites during the day. All you need to do is check under the trees for a healthy amount of bird
droppings and you'll usually find an owl above them. Quite often the birds, especially the big ones,
will stay put allowing someone to climb up close for quite close pictures.

Awesome shots. He is definitely getting some great pics in the field. I've had the privilege of viewing a few others in his collection. Some good stories to go along with some of them too.

beautiful...I love the birds of prey...we had a coopers hawk get stuck in our stores loading bay a week or so ago...took about an hour to catch him in a couple of dip nets...doubt he will try coming inside again

Yes he certainly does have some great stories and an amazing eye for photography, we spent the day together yesterday talking hunting and picture taking, swapping rifles !

Ive had the privilege of hunting with Lyle a few times and I can say I'm not sure there is anyone better behind a set of binoculars then him, weather sheep or mule deer hunting he never ceased to amaze me at how he could spot animals.........I used to joke with Dave "BigBore" Marsh that Lyle could spot flyshit at a 1000 yards !
