My bud and I took this guy, while we were out elk hunting....walked right into him pretty much, he had no idea we were there and one shot from his 300 win dumped him. he is 6'4 and weighed close to 400 lbs im sure...we both could not lift him into the sxs it took some grunt work but we got him loaded up...jet black legs and head but a beautiful brown coat...what a gorgeous bear he is...I was regretting letting him take the shot, as I spotted him but hey im happy he has a nice rug on its way

Nice bear. 400 lbs?

lol...

That bear could very well be 400 lbs.

Great looking bear OP, thanks for sharing, I got a black like that once. He was 270 lbs for just the carcass at the butcher, we cut off buckets of fat from that bear before we brought him in. The meat was good, farmer sauage, pepperoni and ham. His skull went 21 inches. Would love one that colour!

yeah man! This guy had so much fat! I'm guessing the weight for sure just based on the fact that both of us could barely drag him to the buggy let alone lifting him in.. sounds like a beauty bear you got too

Funny how some hunts work out. Nice bear and thanks for sharing. I completely understand what you mean about trying to drag an animal that big and not being able to budge it. I’m pretty big and it makes you realize how big these animals are. Never got a bear before but have always had a tag for one the last 5 years. Maybe this is the year.

You could be right. I think I’ve been too conservative is guessing bear weights. We saw lots of bears last year and my son usually asks me to guess their weights. I usually guess between 140 and 250 lbs.

Either way, it’s an awesome bear with a perfect hide.

That is a nice bear alright.
But, you know what I like about him the best? He won't be around to snack on calves and fawns this spring and I am sure he had more than a few of those morsel over his life time.
Good job, helping the deer, elk and moose population rebound. http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.pnghttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.png

Nice job boys. Great to see. I have my eyes on the biggest bear I’ve seen on the island here for spring. Spotted him in the fall as well. Congratulations. Better get as many of the blackies while we still can.
