SO, my buddy bought a Grady White 21' boat afew years ago that was in decent shape, but then he decided to renovate. He gutted it, had a rear transom built for it, installed a brand new 225 Yamaha and a 8HP Yamaha kicker and did up the rest, too. He wanted to take it for a trial run in Bamfield on Vancouver Island, so my buddy Roba nd I agreed to be guinea pigs.
Steve, wiht the first fish hooked (and lost!!)

Heading home....

All in all it was a great trip, we hooked lots of fish, landed some fish, kept some and let some go....Our retained catch included coho, chinook, cod, and halibut...

I will never agina take a BC ferry wihtout a reservaton, except 6AM ferries, and next time I go to Bamfield I'll check to make sure that the pub is open, since it wasn't...Imagine thousands of thirsty fishermen, and the only pub in town is closed for renovations in prime fishing season. What a joke.:runaway:

BC truly is the best place on earth....

Looked like a great trip, except for the pub, that's crap. Always a source of good wholesome entertainment. How far out did you guys go? Did you get out to the "bench" or did you stay mostly inside? When I was last there in 2004, We couldn't keep the Coho off the hook, it was unbelievable. We limited out in an hour then were playing with them on a spin cast. Had double and triple headers going all the time.

About the furthest out we went was 10-12 miles, and the coho wanted to bite alot...

Halibut was good out there, too. Whenever we went through a tidal line we would get hits, too.

Geesh, ANOTHER fisherman.

Guess the govt will hand out licenses to about anyone.

Your bud that rebuilt the boat; Was it planned or did he get himself into a 'problem child'? Doin a transom is a fairly large undertaking. what's the vintage?

Glad you had a good time and caught a few.

Hm, some guys have all the luck. Except maybe for the Humpback showing up, but you were able to dodge it. Looks like a great trip, good pics.

What's the cruising speed and top speed of the boat in calm water?

Calm day for offshore, no swells. Rare. Some good eating by the sounds of things but no slabs eh?
Weird year, the big boys havent rolled in yet. I'm hoping they're just late...

.

this is happening more and more. Its more cost efficent to rebuild the transom/ swim grid and get rid of the heavy V8 motors, put a couple of large clamp on's and your good to go. Provided the hull is worth doing the mods to. More and more people are learnimg the beauty of HONDA'S
