Looks like the velvet is pretty well maxed I see pointed points another few weeks and rub a dub dub. Those are excellent photos and that one looks like a manicured golf course. Keep up the scouting.

Nice pics!

I think BC should pass the offroad vehicle legislation and throw heavy fines/penalty on those 'offroaders/4x4ers' who aren't willing to stay on logging road.

In order to protect sensitive alpine habitat, the
Ministry of Environment is considering restricting
motorized vehicles (except snowmobiles)
from travelling off established roads and trails
in the alpine (above 1700m elevation) in
Region 8. Written comments on this proposed
regulation can be sent to Brian Harris at the
Ministry of Environment office in Penticton,
102 Industrial Place, BC,V2A 7C8.

this is posted in this years regs for region 8.

I will admit, when the weather is poor i will do some road hunting myself, never off trai though. I like the idea of a vehicle restriction,i think it will give the critters a chance to multiply and also put more of a challenge to the hunt.

great pics. nothing more satisfying then spending a day climbing a mountain. nothing worse then getting to the top and find your pristine alpine view destroyed by some asshole with a quad. or smilie faces and peace signs built out of rocks.

hunters on quads aren't there to damage the terrain

who cares what their motives are. driving a quad over sensitive alpine environs is damaging weather you like it or not. no way around it. tires and alpine don't mix.

where the quads had been looked like a consrtuction site. it wont hurt anyone to get off and walk.stick to the roads in the alpine. if it's not already illegal to drive on alpine tundra it should be

I think as has been posted here before, it's not hunters on quads who wreck the environment, it's joy riders who are looking for a swamp to chew up.

Those who jump at the idea of vehicle restrictions should be careful what they wish for. As with most restrictions you find in the regs, they ban hunters but DO NOT ban joy riders. The region 8 proposal would, in its present form, ban hunters but would still allow mud boggers, dirt bikers, and swamp rippers to do whatever the hell they want. And, they could do it in hunting season too, so don't for one minute think that it will buy you some "peace and quiet" in the alpine. Also, ANYONE with a "commercial venture" would be exempt, so cowboys can use quads to check their cattle, loggers can drive their pickups and feller bunchers, and GUIDES can access the areas as well. Who loses out? The resident hunter who isn't the guy ripping things up in the first place. And the result? Fewer hunters because those who rely on quads to get around due to age and mobility problems quit hunting - at a time when the future of ALL hunting is dependent on increasing the number of hunters in the bush.

Where the heck have people been hunting where they think we need more critters to multiply? Besides a few Class A animals in a few MUs, BC's game populations are the highest they have ever been. Also, there are no statistics to prove that hunting with quads in BC has affected harvest at all. If anyone can't harvest at least a deer with the populations we have, they are doing something seriously wrong IMO.

I've been directly involved with Mr Harris in the discussions on this issue from the club level, and from the BCWF's standpoint. When you have spent as much time in discussions on this as we have trying to ensure access for hunters and anglers, you can roll your eyes at me. :-P

there are plenty of roads in alpines all over b.c., which is fine. use them. theres no need to be off them though. i dont think, or should i say i hope that resident hunters are not the problem. I think some people may be very supprised at how many people dont realize that alpine tundra is very sensitive. ask around?

As long as roads are there to get up to these spots, some people, will drive on them, and then, off them. Roads have to be totally, properly de-activated physically, to keep all drivers out, no other way to stop them, no reasoning, no rules, or wishful thinking, only way, no road, and that's not going to happen in this century.
