So my hunting partner and I picked up an early Christmas present for ourselves and went out to the marsh to go try out our new ghillie suits. We had an awesome day in the fog. The suits worked amazingly well! As long as we kept still, the ducks would come right over top of us and land in our decoy set. And with it being so late in the season, these ducks have been through the gauntlet so I was really impressed how the birds wouldn't flare away from us where they would veer of miles away had we had a traditional blind setup. It's also really nice not having to lug out all the extra blind material too. Now we are the blind!

I didn't happen unless there are pictures to prove it, so here are a few from the day.

So you just sit in the suit and the birds are tricked? That's pretty cool. Although I'm not a waterfowler so don't know much about it :)

Pretty much. Does a good job of breaking up your profile. Works even better in cover but worked well in the open too

Cool, great they work for you. Success is in the pudding.

Besides, takes ya back to being like Swamp thing or Gillman.... And since when do we care about what we look like when hunting...... Or at least I don't.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

The other thing too is that it sure is nice not having to pack a blind anymore. And the birds were noticeably behaving differently than when we were in the blind. Heck some Canadian geese flew right over our set and didn't even flinch. Too bad for that 3 week break otherwise we would have bagged them!

That's funny you mentioned swamp thing. That's exactly what came to mind when we saw the photos of ourselves

Very cool!

Plus you could really freak the shit out of people walking the beach.

I bought mine out of the states. Paid 110 with shipping so that's a good deal as long as the quality is there. You can buy direct from theghilliesuits.com for 69 usd.

They look Great... good prices too. I may have to get one to put in the gear bag...
My son likes to sit up closer to the decoys with his 20Ga instead of the blind.

Which pattern are those? hard to tell with the lighting. I am thinking that the desert colours may blend into the wetland grass we hunt - more golden than green or moss...

We went with the mossy pattern. Blends in beautifully. Today was a real test for the suits as it was clear and sunny.

We were able to sit 20 yards from our decoys and the birds would land right in our set. We only managed to take home one duck today and we passed on quite a few smaller ones. We also missed one great opportunity where we had two BIG Mallards fly right across our set. They didn't flare away or change direction. I don't think they even knew we were there. Unfortunately we were looking in the wrong direction and could not draw our guns fast enough for a shot; they were moving fast.

So if the suits worked well on a clear blue bird day, I can't wait to use them on a wet and windy day!

If you end up getting one for your son get one for yourself too. Ditch the blind and be the blind!

Just reviving this thread because I made my own ghillie suit. Check it out. Just took it out yesterday but nothing was flying so no chance to test it yet.

Awesome! That bush has a gun!

Great work, it sure is nice not having to lug a blind out to the marsh isn't it?

I'm thinking I'll hit up Roberts Bank this weekend. If you decide to head out let me know. I've got about 3 dozen deeks we can add to your spread.
