Thoughts? Seems big for a cow moose? No?

But: this was 20 days ago, of course the snow track was 10 out of camera view.

You'll want to find a spot where the back feet contact the front tracks.

If the back (the ones on top) are wider than the front, likely cow. If narrower or inline with the front, likely bull. Cows have a wider pelvis for bearing young and consequently their back hooves run further apart than a smaller-assed bull.

Track looks like Cow to me, Bull is heavier on rear of hoof, dew claw marks not predominant in the snow.
2nd Picture appears to show antler growth.

Any other pics of the tracks? I'm going to say bull tracks and the pic is a cow

I saw a beautiful set of bull moose tracks the other day. The only problem is, I watched the cow make them. This year I've become more and more convinced that the presence of dew claws in a track doesn't indicate anything but animal weight and ground hardness.

I also laugh when people sex an animal by the track. What other species can you do this with?

X2 .
If little hoofy prints seen accompanying larger hoof prints then pretty good odds it's a Cow or if deer tracks then Doe. Hoof print by itself (in most cases) and you may as well flip a coin as to sex.

Well, thought I'd ask . . . I kept trying to find one standing in them, but no luck. ;)

Was trying to figure out if it could be the cow that was on my camera from a few days earlier about 10 feet from the snow tracks and could ignore . . . Felt the tracks were bigger than she looked though.

Heading back up this weekend with 5 trails I need to watch if the snow doesn't have me shut out. I know one group was a cow & calf, but it appeared another joined them for a dance party. Could she still be in heat?

This time of year the moose tend to break into groups , bulls with bulls, cows with cows and younger bulls. As the winter progresses they will spread out more into singles or doubles. I was out recently and saw a nice little bull with a cow/calf pair.

And some cow moose can be monstously huge, leaving huge tracks. There was a giant cow living in town here (Smithers) a couple years back, there is a clip on youtube of her kicking some poor woman in the face.

All good information.

Intel is that there is roughly 4 feet of snow in the high country right I've been hunting. Hoping that has pushed them down lower into less dense cover.

Cheers, VFX
