As we all prepare for the next season and try to gather more info on new areas, what map sources are your favourites; both on-line maps and hard copy maps as well. What about good maps stores that you use?

For me I use the Canada Atlas on-line http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/ (http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/site/english/maps/topo/map?mapsize=750+666&scale=40000.000000&mapxy=-1831584.5250835092+484633.0813230079&mode=query&layers=north_arrow%20other_features%20roads%20hydr ography%20boundary%20builtup%20vegetation%20popula ted_places%20railway%20power_network%20manmade_fea tures%20designated_areas%20water_features%20water_ saturated_soils%20relief%20contours%20toponymy%20c ontour%20nodata_ntdb_50k%20fapfeature&hidetextbox=&urlappend=%26map_arrowlatlongall_feature%3Dnew%26m ap_arrowlatlongall_feature_points%3D-1838573.7546436402%20473238.36525393743%26map_arro wlatlongall_class_text%3D49%BA%2046%5C%27%2055%5C% 27%5C%27%20N%20121%BA%2021%5C%27%207%5C%27%5C%27%2 0W) or www.nric.ca (http://www.nric.ca) as well as google earth. Are there better on-line maps than these?

For us guys in the Fraser Valley, there is Nixsons maps in Cloverdale which I thought were pretty good. Are there any other good sources for maps?

Nixon's is now closed, but it was a great place to get maps.
I use a 3 CD set of Topo maps of BC from a place in Alta, called Touratech
Every topo in print on CD, I print a page as I need it and of you go!!

MapView. Best gov map site there is. You will need to set up a BCEID account but there is nothing to it, just like creating an email account. https://logon.gov.bc.ca/clp-cgi/capBceid/logon.cgi?flags=1101:1,8&TARGET=$SM$http%3a%2f%2faardvark%2egov%2ebc%2eca%2 fnetapps%2fmapview%2f
Play with the layers. You will want elevation on for sure (contours). I believe that there are quite a few threads on this topic already.

Those are Euro's, European dollars. I bought mine in 02 and payed $125 shipped. But got $1000 worth of maps.

NP. Just fool around with the layers. You can add cut blocks, roads, hillshade, contours, orthophotos you name it.....
