Anyone know a good reads on black bear habits? high to low areas where they typically move and their process before hibernation . Looking to go deep into the bush in Nov but thinking it me a lost cause.

Nov is a poor time of year to hunt black bear

Are the bears less active?

I would guess location plays a role too. My son and I saw 26 over four days in port hardy last spring. We saw only one bear in port hardy over 3 days recently.

iirc Gary Sheltons books on bear encounters have quite a bit of biology too, like eating habits and the what and when on food sources.

Bears are normally nocturnal critters, but hunger brings them out in the daylight, especially in the spring. A healthy bear will already be fat and lazy.
