I went out scouting last night to see how the local black tails were shaping up on Bowen.

Here's a few pictures:

I sat for a full minute at about 15 yards from this guy (above)

This fellow was about 20 yards away and in no real hurry to move along (above)

This was the finest fellow of the evening. I watched this bad boy move gently over a rise into a shallow stream bed where there were three does, each of whom had either one or two fawns. He was about 35 yards out, so too far for me to reach with the recurve.

Won't be long till September now.....

PS - I just realised, that if I'm lucky with the bow this season, I might have to change my handle from 'bang!' to 'ffp!'

Are there any pertinent regulations to bowhunting on Bowen other than it must be on private property? Any other restrictions?

Hi Ryan

Unfortunately there's no shortage of red tape here on the rock around bow hunting. You must have written permission from the landowner - you must obtain a special certificate from the local RCMP - you can only shoot traditional (no compounds or cross bows allowed) - and there are a few other little niddly piddly details that must be met to satisfy the local municipal bylaws (like hunting away from dwellings, roads, pathways, schools, etc....)
