Does anyone know if statistics are available for the numbers of resident and non-resident hunting licenses issued in BC? Trying to find them for a university paper but I'm having troubles locating a source

Do the numbers keep dropping? I suspect so but have no data to back that up.

We are closer to 110,000 resident hunters now. Couldn't say with any certainty about non-resident.

Simple info like that is available to those that ask.

Someone once proclaimed how important data mining was to higher education, guess I didn't listen.

The number of persons who actually purchase a license is far lower than the number of people that possess a hunter number. I know a few people that if they don't get an LEH draw don't buy a license, and there are many people that have simply quit hunting and still possess a hunter number.

Hunter numbers on the increase. Harvest numbers generally flat or declining.

I had a copy of the harvest stats from the ministry a couple of years back. They seemed perfectly willing to share at the time but I haven't since asked for an update. It had useful data not just on harvest numbers but also days spent hunting so you can get an idea of hunter effort.

I don't have the stats but there was a peak of 150,000 or more in the 1970s.

But the numbers today are WAY better equipped than those days when Bill and Mike would throw a couple sleeping bags and an axe and Coleman lamp in the family station wagon and go up to 100 Mile moose hunting.

If we could ever quit the in-fighting, get our shit together, we would form a very powerful bloc.

Way more hunters out there than ever imo

Hunting licenses to B.C. residents peaked in 1981-82 season at 174,000, before sliding to less than 82,000 in 2003. A hunter recruitment and retention plan was implemented shortly after in hopes of attracting resident hunters once again. I believe last year or so we have rebounded to something in the range of 110,000 licenses sold.

Way more roads out there than ever........hence the impression that we are back to the 'hay days', clearly we are not.

Introducing the Omineca Model in 1981:evil: didn't help matters.

I have the 1976-2015 stats, harvest is up and down depending on species and area, for a variety of factors. Interesting tool

In my backyard, 1975-1985, avg of 787 moose hunters per year. Killed on avg 181 moose per year, each hunter spent on avg 30 days hunting per moose kill. The last ten years, 550 hunters avg, 112 kills, 43 days per kill
