I'm reviewing the map book and looking at Google Earth as well,
I see some active train tracks as well as abandoned train tracks, probably a combination of both where the tracks are still there but completely inactive and other location where the tracks have been removed, but obviously the ground prep work that was done to support the tracks would be more than capable of taking an ATV in many kms
in some locations these access some very remote parts of the province, where there does not appear to be any roads.

does anyone have any thoughts on this ?

Some, even a lot of the tracks in the south are designated trails. Some allow orv's, some do not, most are used by them any ways. Good luck.

My concern would be if the rail bed is still owned by a company.

Another concern is your actual hunting, either on the rail line right of way, or the adjacent
lands...all of which might be private. If there aren't any fences you might be alright, but
private property owners don't have to post except at access points such as gates etc. The
onus is on the hunter to be aware.
