Good morning all, just looking for some insite on a decent rangefinder that won't break the bank.

For archery or rifle or both?

A vintage analog rangefinder starts at about $10. It is great for learning to judge archery distances, and would work on a hunt in certain situations (stand hunting).

Vortex has a new budget rangefinder out, called the Impact 850. I don't know if anybody is stocking them yet, but they should go for 200-250

I got a spare one I don't used anymore. Highly recommend you get something like my Leupold RX-1200i
It's worth saving for it, you put your load data in there and it will give you the true ballistic range. It's pretty good tool to have if you've ever considered longer shots ...or you'd get yourself in the position where you would consider it.

My Halo's (spare) pretty much brand new. 24 pack of Stellas and it's yours.

I'd suggest heading out to a shop and trying as many different types as you can get your hands on. A bunch of people here like the Vortex, I found them to be the slowest in returning distances, but the optics were better than any Leupold that I held. I ended up finding a wicked price on the Bushnell G-Force DX, which while not the newest tech more than meets my needs. If you haven't looked at the Sig rangefinders, I'd highly recommend seeking those out - the fastest rf that I found (across their entire line), but I prefer a red display and opted for the Bushnell.

When it comes to rangefinders for rifle Leica is the way to go. For bow, most any cheap brand will do.

One tip, go into the store and try out range finders. I remember being in Cabelas and trying a few side by side. I used one of their stuffed bears and noticed the low end units couldn't range in the dark of the fur nor could the lenses pick up the detail. I ended up with a mid priced Nikon, its optics are okay and it ranges what I need it to. So far it works for me, not stellar glass though.

BAM! and you have a new rangefinder. Enjoy, give me a shout when you want to go swing some sticks or shoot some hot pellets.

I’ve got a redfield 600, it’s great. Bought on sale for just over $100.

I use a Nikon 7i that picked up on sale. Faster than my previous uses (leupold). I think you will be happy with anything you can get between $200 and $450

Got a Sig kilo. They are one button and range in .25 sec. Fastest in the market. I looked at the vortex but was annoying how it ranges.

Understand what you will be using it for. My Leupold isn't super easy to get good ranges out past 400-500yds. Not practical shooting, but I wish it would range out to 1000.
