Depends on the management unit regarding LEH, but most/all general open seasons do require a 6 point minimum.

I shot a 6x7 last season, so yes, elk can and do grow more than 6 points per side.

Nice pics by the way. Is that a region 8 bull by any chance?

400 meters away from the highway!8) or just get that truck to swerve and drive over him, I'd hammer that bull I've never had the chance so I'd layem down

That's a nice bull if it's a Rocky Mtn bull. Good 4ths on him and good mass throughout.
He's gonna be a ball dragger next year, not saying I wouldnt zip him given the opportunity this year :)
Thanks, I needed that.

Nice looking elk but the left side of his rack is gimped up, the right side is good. The elk is a unique color a light chest nut. Smaller elk are more tender, taste better. That big red semi truck in the back ground is too close. You sure don't need a atv to get up to that elk! That elk is eating the bush there and looks like a salad bar at ABC family restaurant. No salad dressing tho.

Its a summer coat Jelvis, not that unique and that bull would be as tender and tasty as a raghorn shot at the same time.

Gimped up? Looks pretty normal to me...should score about 310. That's a normal summer colour...and I agree with RO, that bull is as tastey and tender as a raghorn.

As you can tell I nave not hunted elk too many times only up the Quinn Creek Mu 4-22 in the eighties with some guys from Cranbrook. Saw a nice big bull and a spike. Nice country up there world class scenery. I like the color of the bulls hide reddy chestnut in it's summer coat. You guys are right no doubt, keep up the good scouting. Those are excellent pictures to look at!

Saw a monster 6x6 in region 8 on Wednesday. The main beams went back halfway between his front shoulders and hind legs, long tines on every point. The bull sure looked awkward running through the timber with that big rack tilted all sideways just to make it through.

Do that many get whacked in region 8? I have poked around for deer a bit down there but never saw any elk. Regardless that bull is a good one in any region.

Yes there around in region 8 but it's not a critter you will see everytime out. Pretty spotty. Personnally, over the years, I have noticed an increase in elk actiely in 8. Hopefully it keeps building for the future so everyone can benefit.

I was lucky enough to be in on a kill last year in region 8 :-D

Good to hear that there are some around down there. I would imagine that they get a bit of pressure.
