Have the current iPhone release of Google Earth [GE] 9.1.8 running on a iPhone 6s plus with iOS v10.3.3

The only option on the iPhone is to: Open in GE or save it as a KML

Tried opening it in GE and I got a huge white box with a red X and border over all of BC. So the "help?" desk said to save it as a KML, then load and it would work perfectly, not.

1) Deleted the GE from my iPhone
2) Re-downloaded the GE app.
3) Saved the Discovery file to my iCloud as a KML
4) Imported it in the GE app

Still get the white box with red X that obliterates the map.
Anyone get this working?

Thanks, VFX

I can't get any of it working anymore, not on my phone, or on my computer

The big red X indicates an invalid data link. It's likely the links have changed and you need an updated KML file.

Sometimes the data from the government is down for a bit. I'm not seeing anything today either. Try it again on Monday.

I had this show up on my computer the other day and found that by opening up the FrontCounter BC drop down I was able to make it go away by unchecking the "mining" overlay. It was actually a specific item in the mining group, but I forget what that is now. Not sure if that will help you, but you may consider unchecking some of the items to see if it works for you.

Good luck.

The reply I got was, "I was using too new a version of Google Earth and go back to the older version". That cannot be done on a iPhone.

And got this next response after some back and forth where I was trying to explain I could not use an older version, "The assistance you are seeking is from the staff from your phone provider, in this case Apple. Our IT staff can assist you with our software, not with your phones operating system. You can use other mapping software such as iMap to turn on Crown layers, private layers and so on, however it is more of a map that you would use prior to your trip to see what land ownership is where. You can also use maps from the regional district for the area you are hunting in as they would show private land ownership.

In case you are interesting in trying the iMap software, I have attached a quick “how to use” document for hunters.".

Not too helpful.

Really want to use in the field. Which is sometimes where you need it the most.

if someone has it working on your iPhone please let me know.

Resurrecting this old thread as I'm still having this issue with the frontcounter bc kml file... Has anyone else fixed it on their phone? Any workarounds? Thx!

try GPS Kit instead of Google Earth. It has the same Google Earth imagery but you cannot put the Gov layers on. What I do is on my home computer trace all the private land parcels close to where I wish to hunt, email it to my phone and open it in GPS kit.

They have broken down the 1 big file into multiple kml files now is what I have noticed. In order to get my logging cuts and logging roads back I had to download two separate kml files to get the layers that used to be all in the one kml file. This might help you out.

All of the data is still available, it's just been separated to different datasets and you need to add them individually now. I think all of these have both KML and WMS options:
