Had our first duck hunt of the season and managed to bag 13 mallards, 2 pintails, 1 widgeon and a pair of green wing teal. We were cleaning the birds after the hunt and found one duck's breasts full of what looked like very small parasites. The "parasites" were all through the breast meat. They were maybe 1/8 of and inch long and about the diameter of a thin pencil lead. Not knowing what these were we discarded the meat from this bird. Any input would be appreciated.

Its likely Sarcocystis which is fairly common in some years, in waterfowl. Looks like rice grains.... Okay for you but not raw for pets.

Great document, but a gross read.

Thanks. I'm glad we garbaged it. I have seen something similar in rabbits, but it was not in the meat, only in the liver.
