Elephant Hill Fire Area Compared to Lower Mainland

Was curious, so created a comparison overlay . . . helps one grasp the extent of the fire.

Elephant Hill is only 198,000 hectares too. The Plateau fire complex west of Williams Lake is 520,000

Prince Edward Island is 560,000 ha for comparison. I went west of Nazko the other day, fire started at 3904km, we drove to 3968 and it was burnt from there as far as we could see and that is the narrow edge of the fire.

Was wondering what those other burns were that were visible North Northwest of the Elephant Hill fire in the sent link. :-(

I made this comparison because it was one of my hunting areas and wanted to try and visualize the scope of it. Thought it was worth sharing.

In about 10 to 15 years, the area encompassed by the Plateau fire is going to be the best moose habitat you can imagine providing the earth did not get scorched. Not that it is going to be devoid up to then. Next spring, all those small plants that appear quickly after a fire are going to sprout up and there will be some awesome forage for ungulates. Black bears too will fare well.

Thanks -- oh, One of the Loon lake residents is [jokingly] complaining about 30 piles of bear scat being left in his orchard, so some fared fine . . . Just hope they can get enough food for the winter.
