View Full Version : Save the Wolves!

There is a new poll up at http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/poll-should-the-slaughter-of-wolves-in-british-columbia-be-banned/

It is a cruel fact that wolves in this province are being *slaughtered* by *bloodthirsty trophy hunters* who are apparently unable to buy Viagra like decent people do. Some people say its being done to save caribou, but we know that's a big fat lie.

Please click on the link and vote in this poll!

I have one more favour. I voted against stopping the hunt, because, well, I'm just not a nice person I guess. So, if you want the hunt stopped you'll need to go there right now and cancel out my vote.

Of course, if you think the hunt should continue....

They will keep chipping away species by species

I send my letters emails so on but till BC hunters have a strong organized voice this is not going to be enough

this poll appears to be from 25 oct 2013.

True, it is, but it just got bumped back up through social media. "The NDP government helped the grizzlies to stop trophy hunting.now we need to convince them to stop The slaughter of our Wolves!!" Like Wild One says, pseudo-conservationists will keep chipping away. Go register a vote. Takes a minute.

We need to get the truth out to the low information public. Social media is an easy way and everyone reading this has access to it. Be diplomatic. You don't change a lot of minds by yelling at people.

BTW, just ran across an article https://peerj.com/articles/3736/ that talks about reducing moose numbers to reduce wolf numbers to help caribou. Science vs. emotion.

Rob

right now the organizations on the anti side are way more pro active than any hunting organizations in BC. Education is great but when our voice is whisper and fractured it is drown out in a hurry. There is little to no interaction with the general public with our hunting organizations. All the talk from our organizations is directed towards a fraction of outdoorsmen that often already support hunting.

Interaction with the general public is where antis are gaining support. Gaining it with ease because there is no voice from our side

It is clear as day change is need on the part of the hunting community

Frustrating, it's tough to read the comments and not be angry.

^^^^ That's my thought exactly.

Here's a term for consideration: "pseudo-conservationist". We need to internalize that term and then make it part of the common language. A pseudo-conservationist is someone who looks and talks like a conservationist but has another agenda (enforcing a personal morality on the public and/or raising money). It's not a new concept to a lot of us, but it has to get out in the open.

Another thing to think about and discuss with non-hunters (in a non-confrontational way) is the immorality of ignoring real threats to wildlife and instead hypocritically concentrating on one species. Any group that argues that one species is "innocent" of what man has done and so should not be "punished" while at the same time arguing that another species can't be saved is immoral and hypocritical.

- If we're going to argue that wolves are innocent then we have to admit that caribou are also innocent, and if we don't we're being hypocritical and inconsistent;
- If we can save species on the verge of extinction or extirpation (and we can and have) but don't, we're immoral;
- If we choose to support an unthreatened species over a threatened species on the basis of emotion or money we are not conservationists nor are we accepting science.

I use the term "we", but I think everyone knows who I'm actually talking about. When you're talking to a non-hunter, especially if they are low information, keep it low tension and simple, but make the twin points of immorality and hypocrisy.

Sure makes me wonder just how many of these "Anti Hunting" surveys are out there on a daily basis???
Social Media sure could spell the death for hunting as a heritage/resource.
Need to start making social media a benefit for us before its too late....
Has to be something well thought out however.
Thanks for posting the link.

The link at the bottom of the page is a signup for their petition to end wolf hunting.
The link to vote does not work at least not on my phone.

We as Resident Hunters need to fix up our relationship with First Nations and fight these idiots as one solid force!

Thinking the puppies and teddies are doing just fine here. A neighbor and I paid a trapper to take out 3 packs of wolves last winter on our ranges. Couple of cow eating bears also met their demise.

We have about half our cows home from range now and we have counted 14 dry cows that went out with a calf and one orphan calf so far. Have treated another 7 calves that were wounded and escaped.

But then, some say my cows shouldn't be where wildlife belongs...........

Agree in building a better relationship with FN would be good for hunting but when it comes to antis they are not really affected so not seeing big help from them here

FN hunting rights are well protected do to treaty rights. This is why antis don't target them and often when the lobby against hunting they clearly exempt FN

Ya, it's amazing how many idiots in the City watch the "Sopranos" or other "Mafia" TV shows where 9 humans are murdered per episode, yet the scream out loud when a Wolf is taken legally by a Hunter. Little do they know how hard it is to hunt one, let alone even see one in the wild. I've only seen 2 in my life in the wild, never even got a whisker of a chance at a shot. Just my 2 cents.

Its called picking the low hanging fruit and that is us sad but true. There is no legislation protecting none FN hunting legally none FN hunting is a privilege not a right

FNs hunting on the other hand is protected by treaty rights way harder to screw with. Attacking FN hunting rights can be a huge legal battle and yes they can play the race card lol

Simple terms FNs hunting rights are legally protected none FN have no hunting rights so antis are being smart and picking a battle that they have a chance vs a go no where war

Wolves and bears are the "gangs" of the wild country. The huggers wouldn't see or admit to the fact.

Adriaticum:

"Come on dude, this is from 2013"

As explained, it's re-hit Facebook with the quote "Bears have been shut down, now let's move to wolves".

That means its current again.

The real point is not the poll. It's getting hunters active but diplomatic on social media. We need to reach out to non-hunters who aren't anti-hunters. We're losing that battle because we aren't showing up.

I love these polls. /s
Put a biased poll on a website dedicated to your cause and then send out an email saying "95% of all respondents support ending the wolf hunt!". It reminds me of emails I get from the Liberal Party of Canada asking what the "important issues" are for Canadians, followed by an email a few days later stating to the effect of "Canadians have responded and this is what they think" (paraphrased). Not biased at all, right?
