Hi all, hearing some buzz from pissed-off Loon Lake residents that said people are coming in hunting [Junior and Bow] in the Loon Lake area. The residents are saying that the fire burn and surrounding area is restricted to NO ONE ALLOWED -- not even on foot. So why are hunters in there?

Is this the case? Looked around and could not find any specifics on the "No access". The one resident was upset that they were not being allowed to go and gather firewood, but people could hunt.

Trying to stop any "fake news" and "Anti" sentiments on their FB Page.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, VFX

p.s. My area and cameras I've posted photos from are no where near that region and I am not planning on hunting any of my Loon Lake spots this year.

I was a little surprised to hear that my friends son was up hunting around 70 mile.
Considering the situation right now, and that the EK is in full closure, I think a lot of people who live up there are on edge,
and just upset to what has happened.
(to be honest, everything was in place for something like this to happen sooner or later...beetle kill thru out the province)
A lot of people are in "shock" still, and it will take time for them to adjust to the "new look of the land".
It's understandable.
That being said, I think as soon as the weather changes, the rain starts to fall and temps drop, they will not be so
agitated.
Up north has had rain to some degree, so things are probably better for us hunters to head until things normalize around
the elephant hill fire and the other ones in the region.
I think the same goes for Reg 8 soon.
Sat out at my dads out in Tsawwassen, looking straight east, and we can actually see the Smoke Bomb from the fire
south of Princeton and us border.
Puts things into perspective, if I can see that all the way from here!!

Pretty easy to find......search "fire restrictions in BC" .....first website that pops up. Here's the link for those that are having trouble finding it.

http://bcfireinfo.for.gov.bc.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Bans.asp

The link below outlines restrictions around the Elephant hill fire. Pretty clear that unless you live/work within or are part of a fire suppression crew you better not be there.

http://bcfireinfo.for.gov.bc.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=2870

Elephant Hill restricted area map link.

Some of the larger fires in the Chilcotin have buffers of 2-10km on the perimeter of the fires. Please do some research before heading out. It is for your safety, the safety of the firefighters and out of respect for those who have been directly impacted by these fires. There are maps for all of the fires/areas that have restrictions on them.

I was up working near Huhuim lake today, there is just really no reason for anyone who isn't working there or who lives there to be in there right now. There are some security companies sitting at the bottom of some of the access roads but not all, just checking who is driving up these roads. Hopefully we get a decent amount of rain and this will all change but as of now I would advise people to just stay away please

Still lots of areas to hit that aren't fire banned, but even the ones that aren't are really really dry. Be very careful until we get a bunch of rain.

Loon is burnt up, when one goes there the feed is gone so why bother hunting there? I personally will lay off this year from there

Agree, people are saying they [deer and bear] are down eating around their houses on the Lake. So there was some survival. Sounds like a mild winter is in the forecast, so there might be a rapid rebound. fingers crossed.

Crownland is closed there till at least Oct 31. Not sure what this thread about. People need to do there homework. Or be fined.

There's a general off-road vehicle restriction for the Kamloops, Cariboo and Southeast (Kootenay) fire centres. I suppose you could walk into an area.

Off-Road Vehicles restricted...

(http://bcfireinfo.for.gov.bc.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=2834)Area restriction for the Elephant Hill wildfire (http://bcfireinfo.for.gov.bc.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=2884)

Access to Loon Lake is allowed but around Loon Lake there are still Evacuation Orders (http://tnrd.ca/sites/tnrdtest.civicwebcms.com/files/media/Evac%20Order%20Rescind%20Clinton-Loon%20Lk%20FSR%20South%20Sep%205%201900%20-%20online.pdf) in effect.

Includes most of my Loon Lake spots, so definitely not going in there this year. On to Plan A and C :)

Man I have a moose draw for there, well B range and I will let it go, just going up there to enjoy the cabin and be thankful it's still standing... Give the 4 leggers a break

Would be nice if they just rolled your LEH draw over into next year since you are locked out.

Interesting article in 100MileFreePress (http://www.100milefreepress.net/news/more-wildlife-expected-after-fires-in-the-long-term/) on this topic. Long story short, nobody really knows. Too bad we can't come up with funding to get some real numbers on post fire outcomes ("He says they put out a proposal to study the effects of fire in the Okanagan last year, which wasn’t funded, and will be doing so again this year."). Maybe this year.

Second hand news, but my hunting partner just spoke to a resident/hunter from Quesnel, and supposibly the military has been putting down Moose, due to them being burnt, and quite a few of them!
Can't confirm it however, but sad if that is the case.

After the McGillivray Lake fire (years ago), saw a couple bears that had patches burnt out of their hides - look pretty sad, and their behaviour was on the skittish side. Always wondered if they made it through the winter.

Once the rain hits, it won't really be a question. They have to lift the restrictions at that point or face a court injunction.

This certainly fits with the progress on the Elephant Hill fire. From B.C. Wildfire (http://bcfireinfo.for.gov.bc.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/OneFire.asp?ID=620) Sept, 14th, "Some sprinkler units were demobbed in the Hihium Lake area yesterday and some units may start to be removed starting tomorrow or the next day for the Sheridan Lake area. This, however, is dependent on fire personnel assessment of the operation and area for fire activity and road safety due to danger trees. It is important to note, that sprinkler protection units always get removed well prior to downgrading alerts/order to ensure that no equipment is on site when residents return to their properties and there is no longer any risk of fire. "
