Canada Goose Study

Vancouver Island University is conducting a Canada Goose study. For this project, 400 Canada geese have been banded with collar codes ranging between 000P - 199P (2016), and 201P - 400P (2017). If you observe any of these birds please report them to the Van Is Univ Goose Study site. There is a questionnaire to complete. Any collars observed with different codes and/or colouring (ie. not white collars with black codes followed by the letter "P") should be reported to the CWS Bird Banding Office USGS Bird Banding Laboratory.

Around here Canada geese are more like a pest and should be shot in a year round open season. This study money could have been spent on ungulates.

The Van Is Univ site has pics. The collars are very prominent. These are nonmigratory Cdn geese banded on Van Is, as opposed to the various subspecies that pass through on migration. Even reporting harvested birds will contribute to the data being collected. As per the site info, research is being conducted in relation to damage to croplands, habitat destruction - particulary vegitation in estuaries and health related concerns re water contamination. Costs of this study are minimal, the scope of the problem is significant and growing.

Not exactely sure why this study is necessary. Non migratory geese are exploding province wide and need to be controlled (read "drastically" culled) to mitigate the damage they are causing.

Anybody with half a brain who has not living under a rock these past years knows what needs to be done.

Or, we could just round them up, teach them about good birth control methods and responsible parenting and set them free.

This reminds me of the bunny fiasco that's still being rehashed on that island of left wing dipshits. God help us.....
