I was on my way back from Prince Rupert on Saturday and stopped in at the Kitwanga gas station. There were some pissed off travellers standing at the counter, so I read the bulletin they had in their hands.

The Stewart-Cassiar HWY has been victim to numerous washouts, but the most recent one is 95 KM south of Dease Lake, and I was told it would not be cleared up until at least this coming Wednesday!

I'm sure there are some here that are heading up that direction for the Aug 1 opener....just though a heads up would help.

I appears that it may open today between 1:00 and 3:00 PM for light vehicle traffic though.

That's a real bummer!!!!:(
But when has anyone been on that hwy where there was no road construction going on? I guess everyone will just have to get their timing down so they arrive around noon.

It's about 20 hours from Kelowna to Dease. Of course, it depends on which end of Kelowna your leaving from:roll:.

The washout is north of Tatogga lake so depending on where you are flying out of you might be ok

yikes, I get so many ranging estimates. Map quest says 27 hours from kelowna to Dease. Mark says 17, and SSS 20!

Think i should reserve a room for that one night we have to stay before flyout?

Greeeaattt - if theres 1km of road gone, then how do people access Dease lake? Or for that matter how are they getting even slow moving traffic through?

go to WATSON LAKE..AND DOWN from there..

I am somewhat confused because the website from highways says single lane traffic WILL be Today OR??

However yesterday at 4:30 we DEFINATLEY were told WHEN WE WERE THERE that and I quote.." there is 1 kilometer of roadway GONE and they are expecting the road to be closed for 3-5 months.."...

That should take some pressure off of Dease Lake this season

I've timed it, kelowna to Dease in exactly 18 hours. two of us only stopping for gas, drive through fast food.
9kph over the speed limit days, maybe 15 kph over the limit in the night.
your flying out of Dease with Bruce ?

here's something to get you pumped

30mm of rain expected in Dease today. It will be a good test of the Gore-tex the sheepers are wearing today!

Yikes, like they've said though, weather is unpredictable in those parts :D

I cant decide if its more accurate to use muncho lake or dease as indication of the sheep strip. Really, neither are probably anything near what they experience out there, im sure varying weather systems exist in most large valleys...
