Hi all, wanting to bring my nephew up to accompany me on my November Moose Hunt.

He is coming up either way, but wanted to see about getting him into BC to hunt while he is tagging along for my Moose quest.

Had a few questions for anyone who has gone through the process with someone from the USA.

1) He is in Washington State - how difficult is it for him to bring his long gun up/back?
Have reviewed these:

2) Looking at the on-line process, it says he needs to get a FWID [can a non-resident do that easily?]

I have gone through this process a few times for my brother, who came hunting here from Montana. It was relatively straightforward, but took some time so make sure you do it plenty early.

Just fill out the application at http://www.frontcounterbc.gov.bc.ca/guides/fish-wildlife/accompany-to-hunt/overview/

Bringing a rifle across the border was no problem. They just need to make sure to stop at the US border before coming into Canada. The US border patrol fills out a form for them to bring back with them when re-entering the US. I guess this is so they know that the rifle originally came from the US and they aren't importing it.

The other thing to make sure you do is complete the reporting form for after your hunt, and paying a royalty if the hunt is successful.

I brought my dad up for a hunt this spring. He does not need an FWID. You will make the application, get approved or not, and then buy a hunting license and tag once he is approved.Either he or you can buy the tags at your local access center, but make sure you don't wait for the weekend, as they have to be purchased at the govt building. Bringing a gun is easy. He needs to fill out a firearms declaration and pay $25 dollar fee at the border. He can also get a certificate of origin for his rifle before he leaves washington, but most people don't bother. I would say the best advice is to fill out the hunt completion form before he leaves. You will need his license and tag numbers to complete this process and it is a lot easier to do before he leaves.

Interesting -- The person I spoke with at the FrontCounter BC said he did need a FWID. When I tried to do the online application it asked for his FWID.

do you have the link you were using?

thanks!

Just got approval today. Not as tricky as it seemed.

Thanks everyone for the info.
