So this story starts rather casual.

I had decided not to shoot any more bears unless they where in a 1km radius of my house.

So my wife calls me one day and says there is a cow bear 3 km from the house.
Local neighbour has seen it for years and says he's Willy you will never get a shot at him my buddy has been trying four years.
With quitting my job going Ltd last thing I cared about was a bear.i have a elk A moose and a caribou plus a mixed bag of deer.
So driving to work one am I see the cow bear on private land I say to myself that is a bigggg bear.

I can't hunt that parcel but can the surroundings.

Wednesday night rolls around and I am 30 yards from this hog in thick brush carrying my 458 I can't I'd it as him for sure so he gets a free pass.

Friday I pickup up my new tundra proud boy paid cash I get home sitting on my deck I turn on the bbq and crack a beer.home 6mins

I look over and 600yds from the porch is the cow bear eating alfalfa.

I grab my 338 and the stock is on.

As I close the gap I say to myself that's a very big boy.

At 220 yards I lay down in the mud mosquitoes in my ear all I can see is his butt.

As I lay with a bead on him I say eat that chunk of clover that will make you turn broadside.

Well he goes for the clover but turns his butt to me as I lay there prone waiting he turns broadside.

Crosshairs are on heart breath and squeeze.

He drops as if dead on impact.
I sigh relief but don't trust a giant.
He stands back up.
Bang he drops again.
I stand up recharged and start closing in.
The bear cow stands up again wam I let fly he is now done.
I leave the now empty gun there and approach with the 45-70 he's done I just killed the legend of the valley.

His skull after 3 hours of boiling is over 21 and at the butcher all dressed up came in at 240lbs.

As per normal yota can post pic please bluer my face.

Moved him around with tractor got to love it.

Seen one myself. We were going past a small herd of black angus range cattle along a powerline. Looked over and thought "What is wrong with that yearling?" Realized it was the biggest black bear I've ever seen grazing along with the cattle. Luckily for him we were just starting a moose hunt and weren't looking for a bear. Never seen another that large before or since. It was almost surreal the way he was just in among the cattle, and if I hadn't done a double take he would have blended right in.

I don't care what anyone says they are the toughest creatures on he planet.
I've seen all animals run what seems like forever if the adrenaline is pumping, but bears can go from 0-60 from a dead stop with both heart and lungs turned to goo, and still run 100s of yards before the realize they are dead.

Seen a cow bear myself once, out near douglas lake ranch, right near the cows tending a sow, he ran like a race horse through ravines and up and down a few rolls. I was younger and a bit green with the running shots and missed him. He was as tall as the cows, big black "cow bear"

I shot a bear with the same dimensions as the op, 21 inch skull and 260lbs in 2 halves hung at the butcher, looked almost a big a butchered cow. The one that got away was bigger, they always are lol
