Hunter 1947 Shed Thread..

Out six times so far the other day I finally put a matching set and a single to my collection..:smile: I put on 7 hours and roughfley 12 kilometers to find these 3 sheds
headed out on Friday for an all day shed hunt some of the big bull elk have already dropped ,,here is a video clip from my outing Monday the 27 march 2017.

Hi Wayne, wondering if you use binoculars to glass the hillside or mainly just walk and eyesight. Back in Alberta we used our bino's to glass the fields/fencelines. Its great to get out....

I use the binoculars when in open areas lots but when in thick stuff I use no binoculars only my eyes on path of travel..

To bessy out shed hunting to post up this tue shed hunt so here is my story pictures and video of their solo shed hunt first off here is how all unfolded
Out first light walking for 2 hours I saw the base as for the G1 and G2 from an elk shed walked over and to my surprise only the bottom two points where
there the bull had snapped off the top half when he was fighting,,I got robbed.

I started looking for the other side looked for an hour and got lucky I found the other side about 200 yard from where I found the otherside.
I continued on and found another elk shed about 2 hours latter I said this looks like the match to that other 5 point side I found last week that
was one kilometer from the one I found today all and all when i got home it was the matching side..

Out yesterday I did not find one shed but my young friend found a matching set of 6x6 elk sheds they were a couple years old and chewed he took them anyways ,,,was a funny thing we both were together and i said to him look at that big elk rub on that big tree from last year he said never mind the elk rub there is an elk shed there we both walked up towards the shed and i said there is the other side 10 feet away LOL

My young friend is going back into this big timber today by himself to take a better look around will see how he does today,,Its grandchild day for me today but will hit it hard tomorrow..

You should do that one where you role in the sheds and say how happy and horny you are about finding all those sheds, thats was a gooder.!! Seems earlier tht last year for elk. Sucks I have to work, no end in sight.boo

You said it yourself, a lot of bulls were still packing when you started hiking around in your area. Very likely they have been pushed out of there and shed elsewhere.

They should still be down low, a hell of a lot of snow high up still. You should try where I took you and the kid a couple years back, down near the St. Marys.

Its really bad out there the competition is unreal here in the EK so many people pushing elk everywhere if you're not out there others will pick up the sheds that have already dropped
the horsemen are everywhere..

Pictures and videos from yesterdays solo shed hunt Aprial 16,2017..

Back 12 days ago I found a dandy 7 point fresh elk shed I looked for a couple hours to try to find the matching side with no such luck

I went back there 4 times and comed this area to try and find the other side with no luck my young friend went with me one of these times
I had only one runway to try that I did not cover I found the matching side on this travel path was one lucky person to had found the
otherside..

This otherside was a 6 point for the matching side I almost walked by this shed it was in thicker second growth timber good thing my
head is always going side to side.

Me and my young shed friend we both walked withing 100 yards of this matching side finding this match 12 days latter is what you can call
lots of luck here is the picture the way the 6 point elk shed laid,,one more thing to say the big drop for elk antlers has started my first small
fresh elk shed found yesterday Aprial 16,2017..

O ya I also found 3 other sheds two fresh and one old broken off one here are my pictures and video from my outing yesterday..

And yes I do buy lotto tickets every week ,,LOL..........

When I got home yesterday excited to see if I did have the matching side I dug into my pill of elk sheds and found the 7 point one I said this sucks its the
left side the one I found was I disappointed I left to do something came back to recheck and I was wrong it was the right side I had for 12 days at home was
I ever a happy camper to see that I had the matching side here is the picture of the two together as for the other 3 elk sheds..

Way to go Wayne. Me and caddisgirl watched your YouTube channel for well over an hour yesterday... 2017 shed hunting, fall 2016 hunting.

I guess I overdid my shed hunting the past weekend went 4 days straight without a break put on roughley 40k them four days I pulled a tendon on my foot I have been laid back now for 5 days no shed hunting one good thing is all is getting better each and every day soon I will be back out into the mountains doing what I love to do and that's shed hunting..

Out yesterday for a 9 hour shed hunt put on roughley around 10K my hurt felt good no problems,,the only problems I had was when in bed last night my mussel in my lower leg knotted up big time I had to get out of bed and walk around for 5 min to have it unknot,,I found two old chewed sheds for my outing..

I was out walking at 6am yesterday Sunday May 07,2017 had rain gear on but still got wet to the bones 7 hours of walking only found one fresh elk shed and I filmed a bull still packing..
Can't believe that this bull is still packing his head gear some bulls do pack there antlers into late May I have noticed over my years out shed hunting..

That was a real nice spike bull still "packing" his antlers. He has real trophy potential with the heavy tops on his spikes.
Young deer carry antlers later than mature males which shed earlier and earlier as they age.

I sold my last bunch and got 2,200.00 for them paid for my gas over the past 5 years the buch I have now I will keep them ,,I Am getting old and one day I won't be able to cover the ground I do now I can look back on the shed pile I have now and admire them when I am too old to go out anymore..

I might had taken this bear if I had my 7mm with me and a bear tag have not got my tags this year this is the first BB I have seen while in the bush so far.
Warren as you said they might start moving around with the warmer temp we are getting now.

Neat! I'm also interested in who buys them? I know they're great dog chews and sets for rattling etc. I had no idea this was such a big thing until this year. I certainly admire how much work you put in and how many miles you put on to find them. You certainly see some really interesting things on your adventures. Looking forward to more videos :)
