Hey guys,
I'm considering hunting this season up around Jones Lake (near Hope). Does anyone have any pointers? Not looking for your secret honey hole or anything, just something to get me started. I've done some exploring and plan on doing lots more. Thanks.

I would be careful leaving anything of value laying around. This speaking of experience though it was 7yrs ago. I did get on a good rub line, though it was very thick and only seen does. Came home with a few chickens if I recall right.

Good luck

Flyin high, Now that would be an area to look at alright.Wahleach lake, If you had a couple three days, blue grouse and some ptarmigan
black bears. and a few elk so there must be some buck deer up there. probably blacktails tho with the odd muley too, mixin it up. Atv? horse? Motorbike? otherwise lots of hiking elevation. good excercise tho.

Jones Lake = Waste of Time. Head to the Interior. BTW did you get your scope yet?

the road is washed out pretty bad now, I dont think you will get back there without a boat.

Spend the extra time on the road and head up to Region 5 where you will see Mulies guaranteed, you'll be glad you did. I can understand the reluctance due to both time (say 5 hrs from Van. if you drive slow) and fuel costs ($100 - $150 each way for something with a V8 ) but consider the number of times you're going to get out hunting and it's likely worth it. If you're after Mulies, go to a good area instead of a "there may be the odd Mulie" area. You're more likely to be successful in Region 5.

Thanks for the responses guys. Interesting to say the least. Now, let's go ona tangent. Forget mulies, how about black bear? I've seen some up there and heard from many others who have as well. Worth going up to check it out come bear season?

You bet, there's no shortage of Black Bears anywhere ! Seems like you always see one when you get out in the bush. :-D
