Hey guys. What's the idea of LEH for 5-12 for caribou 5 pts bulls, if there is already open season for same 5pt bulls ?

Haven't checked but I assume that season has changed from GOS to LEH this fall.

In regs it shows there is open season .. that's why I'm asking. Confused

I heard from a friend who shot one there last year.He said it was the GOS and next year(this hunting season) was going to LEH.Hunting regs are only produced every 3 years and don't take in account reg changes.I would call the CO's for sure though.

LEH on caribou this year. Even though the MOE admits regulated hunting has no effect on over all populations they still knocked back guides and residents.

I wonder how many tags are they giving out this year for caribou in 512? Is there a place a person could look that up?

Was it 512 last year where there was no moose hunting in September?

hunting regs are updated constantly. You need to check them online. The printed ones arnt worth the paper they're written on.

One reason I liked the paper regs coming out every year vs the new system. It may save a few $ but makes it more likely for some to miss updates. Yes hunters are responsible to check for updates to the regs but would rather limit the chance for error

Thanks for the information guys, thats quite a cut back from open season to 38 tags. I guess the guide and outfitters will be put on a quota all so. It makes me wonder what all this will look like in ten years if there will be any hunting left at all.

Game in the Caribou suffers from over harvest of females and high predation. My guess is one of these is knocking down the Caribou herd.
As always hunters face cuts, but it don't fix the problems

Didnt get you.. I think it's illegal to harvest females . Only 5 pts bulls in that region ..

I believe he is referring to the Native harvest and poaching of females 'bous.

I believe it is mostly political. The caribou herd in that region is still strong. They have been talking about going LEH in there for many years. It's just another reduction in hunting opportunity that will not make any difference to game densities.
Death by 1000 cuts in BC for regulated hunting. Resident and non resident.:-(
