Fall turkeys ?

I've hunted turkeys in the spring and had success calling them with a hen call. What strategies do you use in the fall ? Is it tougher - birds more wary, no reason for them to investigate a call . Do you just walk around hoping to stumble onto one ? Stake out a field or clearing ?
