Its my favorite local eating fish. If halibut came up the Vedder I wouldn't give steelhead another thought though.

Anyway fishing has been pretty fair so far this year. It was hot in late Dec and early January, and its picking back up again now that the extreme weather has moved on. I hooked two and landed a hatchery buck yesterday, but that was after 4.5 hours of looking. Lucky for me both the fish I have landed have been hatchery fish.

Anyway get out there! It should only get better.

No shirt, no shoes, no problem! :-D

Young Jack loves when I bring home a fish. He loves fishing even more. I just wish a 2 year old could responsibly handle a gun. I will have to make due with him hunting moose in the living room with a broom handle until he comes of age.

There are lots of different rigs for steelhead. My all time best performer is wool and a large jensen egg. If the water is clear just a pinch of white wool will do. If its coloured up then white (on top) chartreuse, pink and red, and a jensen egg. Roe, rubber worms, blades, and even prawns all work but a good wool tie is hard to beat! Roe is like dynamite in the late season though.

Get out there an go for it! It only took me 4 years to beach my first one.... the trick is you have to have your finger on the trigger all the time; even after hours of cold fishing. The chance can come and go in the blink of an eye.
