About time a fine of that size was given. Makes the $2000 fine for the 3 sheep out right a joke.

That's a lot of poaching and there is no doubt more. Some from BC they say, send him down here, screw the 30,000 and put him in jail, he needs some hurtin time

Seize his assets, fine him harder and jail time. That's the only way to make it real for these scum.

He never got jail time, he got house arrest except during working hours. Did you even read the story?

i know. that was the deal the judge gave since he did have a job. 6 month should never have hit the table to begin with. min double that, full provincial time. 2 year less a day

But Yukon Territorial Court judge Micheal Cozens granted Jonathan Ensor's wish to serve his sentence in the community, so he can keep his construction supervisor job in Whitehorse.

I'm guessing half the meat went to his employer...

what 'jail time'?!?!?! As I read that...he has to come home and eat supper in front of the TV for the next 6 months. What a joke!

Seems like a fair sentence to me. 20 year ban. Alot more than some get. Like that lady who was caught with the Bighorns not long ago. This guy was sentenced to much more than a certain Guide that recently got off in the Yukon!

yup...no forfeit of guns and vehicle....and a dick sentence.
so, his license is taken away.....but, he wasn't really using it anyways....not legally

yup, but we won't say what the real reason was for that.

His offer of a lifetime hunting ban was a joke. Poachers are gonna do what poachers do and hunt irregardless of what the judge gave him. The judge should have made the fine 45 grand in addition to what the other terms of his sentence was. Do they call that Trump style negotiations.

Better than just a BS fine but this guy has a big list of offences

Now if only they hit all poachers harder not just majore offenders

The reality is......crime and the penalties given are just not enough of a deterrent.
Just like gun crime...
I always said that "if a person is caught in possession of an illegal gun in his possession, it should be a minimum of 5 years in jail"
And if you use that illegal gun in some crime.....10 years minimum.
If you fire that same illegal....15 years.
And you can guess what my thought on the penalty for shooting or killing someone.

Same goes for poaching.....
IT has to be made, so that the penalty for the crime is just "not worth it"

I wonder if things will ever change when it comes to crime and the penalties that are given.
I shake my head at most of these judges...
Just like the cop said to me after my truck was broken into.
"even if we find the guy with my tools, they cant charge him for the robbery, and when he goes to court, the judges
just send them back out the door".....

If you could only see some of the rap sheets on some people....it would make you go crazy that they actually our out on the streets.

Sorry for the rant.

most arent the judges, its crown and lawyer making the plea deals. using the free guys will always get you to plead guilty and take a lesser charge so they dont have to work to hard on limited pay by gov for their duty councel positiion. they get set fee for a case and not related to time or effort put in as far as i know about that one

Must agree here, and gets to keep his day job, where's the sting in this sentencing. I also have a hard time believing the fine will ever get paid

Examples should be made when people make these choices. Some jerk will probably read this and go pop a bald eagle because the consequences aren't that bad. Truely a joke sentence when you look at the list of offences.

if the fine isnt paid they put holds on your taxes and effects renewals on driving. court fine are for life. not under the usual statute of limitations to

I think at least a bit of time in the slam would have 'adjusted" his attitude more permanently and "forcefully" than any fine.
