Any tips for a newbie bowfisherman?

I went out today and tried to arrow some carp in the local canal. Boy! It is way harder to aim than I thought it would be!

Any hints on aiming setups? I find it pretty hard to locate and aim for a fish through my peep sight and my 5 pins seem to cover up a lot of the sight area. I never noticed this when shooting targets / animals - but it seems to be way harder to sight fish in the water!

I aim below the fish right? How much below my target do I aim? should I shoot the fish broadside - or head on?

I suggest anyone who hasnt tried bowfishing to give it a kick! It was by far the most fun I have had without hooking a fish!

Aim low, really low. Like an entire fish below what you wanna hit. Scrap the 5 pin, go to a one pin sight. Get up high for better sight.

I have not done it but I've seen eceral videos and lots of guys go traditional. Shoot instinctively. It might be worth a try to shoot your bow without a sight and old school it? Just some thoughts...

Thanks Bang - you're right the second one is the one.

Wildfoot - I don't mean to highjack your thread but look at the videos. As you can see, these guys use instinctive shooting...it's faster, clearer, and more efficient. Same principal for shooting at swimming fish.
