Heard about this on the radio yesterday, couple of Tembec workers where mauled by a grizzly in the White River area.

Both survived, don't know any other details.

anyone know the whole story...

I heard "rumor" that they probably scared the bear while walking "quietly" in the area?

just got back from camping in canal flats myself this weekend... great time no bears!

From a reliable source, the girl has some really big cojones, cause she ran in and sprayed the bear while it was on him. Bad claw and bite marks to his legs, will be a couple of months before he is physically able to work again. Judging from a couple of other grizz attack victims I know, its gonna be longer than that before he can walk in the bushes without sweating on a cold day.

Physical and mental reasones, no doubt. Glad for the survivor, good for that girls actions.

Sounds like they did the right thing. Who says pepper spray doesn't work eh?

Gary Shelton says pepper spray is your best defense, especially at close range when your gun is leaning against a tree somewhere. Good job by that young lady to give the bear a snoot full.

I was just up in that area a couple of weeks ago fishing, thankfully the fiercest animal the hound and I encountered was a skunk. Luckily, he didn't spray my hound that wanted to chew on him so badly.

We will be both carrying bear stopper and pepper spray ,you can never have enough protection when you are in bear country.

Dude must have been some nervous waiting for help with a half empty can of bear spray!

I have no use for the stuff, but it goes to show that one is better off having spray than nothing at all!

I just finished Shelton's books and he maintains that it works on Grizzly but not necessarily black bears.....Good thing the Canal Flats Grizzly read the book!

Glad everyone is OK.
