View Full Version : Sheep Regulation Question

The new regulations say that the bag limit for thinhorn sheep is now one per year instead of one every 3 years. Does this mean if you shot a ram last year that you can shoot another this year? Or does a person need to wait untill the original 3 years are up to be able to shoot another ram?

Thanks for your help

Hmmm that's an interpretation question. I would contact either Victoria or the Regional Manager in 7B to see if they have any transition guidelines on that issue. Good question, and not to be answered with "I think it should be..."

Let us know what you find out!

I'm pretty sure if you shot a ram last year you fall into last years regs and have to wait three years just like the mulie regs up here. Though it doesn't hurt to try.

actually the rule was if you shot a full curl ram that was under the age of 8 yrs you had to wait another 3 years before you could shoot another one if it was 8 years or older you could shoot one the next year i confirmed this with a CO at the sheep convention in kamloops this year.

That CO was wrong. Since 1995, even if you shot a ram over 8 years of age, it was 1 in 3. Prior to 1995, it was as you describe above.

Seems there's a change to 1 per year now.

Glad the CO's are up on all the regs:???:--not much hope for all us laymen.

You shouldn't be grandfathered through the old regs - should be 1 every year now regardless of what you shot in the past - atleast that was the intent of the change.

If BCBucks does not come up with official word I'll dig it up.

If you shot a ram last yr, you can shoot another this yr....the intent is to get hunters to harvest more sheep..so get at 'er!

Alright, I've been called out.

In laymans terms......

Sheep in Region 7 are now at 1 per year. It is retroactive, meaning anyone who has shot a ram the last couple years, is no longer under the restrictions of the 1 in 3 rule.

Sheep harvested must be full curl or 8 years of age.

Actually you were ALL wrong:grin: going back to the older regs. I've got all the old regs in my hands.

In 7B- Up until 2003 you could dump a thinhorn ram every year if he was 8 or older. 2004 the regs changed to a 1 in 3 across the board old rams and young.

Actually now you can shoot a ram every year as long as it breaks the nose. They told us straight out that age does not matter.

It clearly states one per year, no transition wwording, unless it comes out in the 'corrections', sure to follow.
