Mulie - but only because I haven't cut a mulie tag yet (cut my first whitetail tag 2 weeks ago). Looks like there might be more meat on that guy too

Between those two the mulie would take a nap, more meat on that bugger!

If the mulie was the same on both sides he would die ... took me all of 2 seconds to choose

hmmm...tough choice...I do like WT meat better but the mulie is quite big....mulie neck looks more swollen so maybe rutted more so probably more burger and sausage from him....I think I would be rechambering and looking for a 2 species double header tho...heheheheh

The muley, I like WT meat better, but I have yet to kill a muley that big, so muley it is...

Which ever one I got a bead on first. I don't see either as a trophy in my eyes so nothing more than meat in the freezer

Whitetail. Like Glenny said, it would be a rare prize for me.

When it comes to eating meat from deer during the rut, WT is FAR superior. If you don't mind endless chewing on stronger flavoured meat and want a nice head mount then the mulie would be a good choice.

That was is a tough call but I would say mulie for me.

I agree with "Wild one" whichever one showed up in my sights first is what I would drop ,as either way it would be my first deer

Funny how the difference of opinion on taste ..i think mulie taste better ... it also has great deal to what the deer eats to how it tastes .. so region wise it can taste different.. took a mulie out of reg 7 years back .. inedible . Dog food .. wasn't rutting..
But I think deer taste different out of different regions

I would not discriminate. They are both dandy prize.

see ...that is why you have a really big gun...so you can just wait till they line up for a double double...heheheh...i guess we could call it the tim hortons shot...something everyone could aspire to...two deer of two different species with one shot

Mule deer, shot lots of both during the rut, both good eating but prefer Mule deer hunting high in the snow covered mountain tops, no interest in the WT anymore.

Ah but not nessesarily;-)...whitetails are generally more territorial, and easier to pattern, usually...

Cant we have our mule deer and eat whitetail 2?

Outside of rut or approaching period (before mid Oct) = MD

During rut or approach period (after mid-Oct) = WT

As others may have mentioned, I get way more satisfaction out of glassing alpine, sagebrush, or even cuts and spotting MD than I do holing up in the woods hoping one of those cagey WT *******s pokes his head out. If I can still-hunt WT, it makes it a bit more appealing, but in my experience the results are nowhere near as good as stand-hunting, which I do find really tough to do for very long.

If it was only about the hunt, MD for sure, but my primary driver remains meat, so generally the WT would go down first.

WT first ... the Mulie will make couple of bounces to the nearest ridge or cover and stop to look back *Blammo*

Sure, if you're profiling a specific individual.
