For those of you that don't frequent CGN and are in the market for old school woolen outerwear. Gostwear.com is a Canadian supplier of workwear and some wool hunting clothes. Currently having a Black Friday sale with free shipping on orders over $100.00. Not high tech super fabrics just good old school wool. Use coupon code BLACKFRIDAYINSIDER for an extra 5% off.

Thanks man - love wool, I am looking for a wool vest as an underlayer.

I look a little out of place with my buddies who are in head to toe in in quiet camo, but then like I have said before, I am the one who does not look like I am hunting in camo pajamas

Thanks for the tip. Finding good wool hunting clothing is like a needle in a haystack around here, or you have to pay through the nose for something from Europe.

Thanks for sharing this! I love wool and from my experience wool prices have gone through the roof as of late (look at fjallraven / filson / the bay ). These prices are amazing even without the discount.

Capital Iron in Victoria had a few Big Bill wool pants in stock.
They were cheaper than Gostwear and I saved shipping. Plus I could try them on.
Other stores may carry the brand.

If your looking for great wool sweaters, Pollen and Company in Lund has great stuff. Not cheap, but I have 4 of their sweaters, and have been very impressed. The wool they use is very soft, and durable. They are easy to wash and don't appear to shrink.

Good to have the info on stores with stock.
The three local vendors that used to be reliable have all dropped their line of wool pants

I have worn wool all my life and has served me well. Having said that, wool is not wind proof and if one is sitting for any length of time it can get chilly to say the least. A light waterproof breathable over the wool for me is a good option.

Thanks for posting the link. Wool is great.
Old school wool pants from WW 2 are getting harder and harder to find at Surplus stores. Still prefer these as they have the diamond sown into the crotch for added movement and they seem to last forever. I just find a lot of the new wool pants fit more like dress pants.

Westely Surplus in New West had a ton of mil suprlus wool pants, cheap cheap. Try Eglifarm in Ont - mail order svc is great and they have the heavy duty 28oz Codet Canada pants, amongst others. Some timber-cutter supply stores also carry good wool clothing.

Checked out Gost website. Liked the wool cargo pants. Not fussy on having to have them dry cleaned.

I've always washed cold on the gentle cycle, tumble dry on low until damp and/or lay flat to dry. No shrinkage or noticeable issues with any of my dry clean only stuff.

*also use the "dark" detergents so you don't glow for the deer!

I've always HANDWASHED my Wool/Merino clothing in cold water using Woolite Detergent. And my wool clothes get washed, only if they really, really need it. My Big Bill Codet pants are well over 20 years old and still going strong.

So anybody that has these wool pants can you confirm whether sizing is generous or not for example if normally you buy size 36 are they tight or loose, I want some but sometimes when you buy on line and cant try them on there can be sizing problems.
Also whats the main difference between the Merino wool and regular say 24oz (why other than price would one pick one over the other )

i can let you know by next week. I have an order on the way. My understanding is they fit pretty true. If you plan on layering and tucking heavy shirts in it might be best to go up a size. Merino wool should be lighter and less bulky.

people to ask would be Gostwear. They gave a chat line on there website, ( or email). I've found their customer service excellent so far.

I bought 2 pair of the Merino wool pants. I normally wear 34 jeans. I got the regular pants in 36 for early season and the cargo pants in 38, for enough room to layer for late season.
Worked out pretty good, both pair shrunk a bit in the leg, but worked out well.
And they're tough.

I tried a pair of the Big Bill 24 oz wool pants at Capital Iron. I normally take a size 34 waist but found these a little snug in the legs/crotch. Tried the size 36 and I could swim in the damn things.

I cut some Cedar boughs every fall and put all my wool clothes in a box with a cloth bag full of the boughs.
Saves a lot of holes and smell a lot better than moth balls.

I
use Ziplock Freezer bags for storage. The same freezer bags with contents then will go into my pack on trips, with contents lettered in black feltpen on bag. Large Zip freezer bag holds my 150 & 240 merino bottoms. Another holds my 150 & 240 tops. Another, spare wool socks, etc.

Sooo, this is probably a little too late. I received my merino wool cargo pants today. They are sized pretty much exactly like my jeans. They have enough room to tuck in a light shirt, that's about it. Perfect for my purposes, as I got them for early season. If I were going to use them in colder weather I would definitely go up a size to be able to tuck layers in and be able to use suspenders.

Yes, it was the downtown store, but I think only the 24 oz wool, not the 18 oz merino.

Got my coat and pants, darn nice stuff, sizing is like any other in terms of waist size length is long for 31" but I am a short ass so hemming was expected.
If I ordered bigger I think I would have been swimming in them.
The coat was what I would call generous but thats good as layering of under clothes will take up the slack.
I would give that company a two thumbs up rating
