Spotted this buck bedded 20 yards behind a doe, as soon as we made eye contact he was up and in the heavy timber. With the doe still out in the open feeding I knew there was still a chance. Tried rattling with no luck, he was moving back and forth in the timber and he was only giving up glimpses of himself for a few seconds but nothing long enough for a shot. Option 2 was to grunt at him and again no luck, he was still holding tight. With the doe feeding her way to the buck and almost in the heavy timber I was desperate and decided to snort wheeze, jackpot, the Buck decided to step out of the timber but only offering up a neck shot at 160 yards. I held off for a few more seconds hoping he would give up his chest but as the doe disappeared into the timber I knew the hunt was over if I didn't take the neck shot , moment of truth as I squeezed the trigger, the shot felt good but the last thing I saw was the Buck spinning to the right in the direction the doe took off. Second guessing myself all the way up to the location where I last saw him, it was a bit of a surprise to see that he had dropped in his tracks, the buck must have spun to the right with the impact of the bullet. I had been a slow week but on this day the rut seamed to of intensified, had also seen a good 4 point with his nose to the ground but could not get a shot off. Now it's time to get my 15 year old a buck, going to pull him out of school this Thursday and Friday, snow in the forecast and the rut in full swing, it should be fun!!! A big thanks to Adam.

He was walking back in forth in cover when I rattled and grunted, I guess the snort wheeze was enough to convince him that there was a threat in the area and that he might loose the doe.

In this area they are consistently found from the valley floor to the top of the mountains.

I think I have pics of that buck from Sept. Great buck.

Went and looked at my pic, ill be damned its a different buck. They could almost be brothers though. The brows are configured different. Everything else looks similar.
