Anybody here have a theory on the relationship between a larger murder of crows disappearing along with the deer in my old sweet spot between 2015 and 2016?

Do the crows cue in on the deer not being around and go to a new area? [i.e. no gut piles]. Last year I could always count on a murder of 20 - 30 flying over checking things out, but this year nothing, maybe one or two. Also this year it seem the deer moved on, as in this spot I could reliably see plenty to pick from, but just three deer all this season.

Maybe the crows are being shot up here, just found the remains of a hawk that was keeping me company each morning dead on the side of the road eaten up. Maybe the hawk was killed by a bad hunting decision on its part, but who really knows. But this could just be coincidence

Any theories?

An old hunting mentor of mine always said he knew the moose were around when the grey jays followed him.

"They know," he told me.

Considering how highly intelligent birds of the corvidae family are, I think he was right.
