I did a little rabbit hunting today, and managed to get 4 within 2 minutes of each other. I haven't cleaned rabbits before so I followed along with a youtube video. As I was gutting the last one he had something inside him I didn't see in the others or recognize anatomically. They were 4 or 5 opaque spheres that were clumped together and seemed to be inside the thoratic cavity and not part of any other organs. I had not pierced the digestive tract or stomach.

To my eye they looked very much like eggs of some kind, they even had a white spot like a developing egg would. Again please keep in mind I am brand new to this, perhaps I have misunderstood something as a beginner and you call all have a laugh at my expense!

Any ideas what it is?

Tapeworm larvae. Harmless to cats and dogs. Will not survive in humans.

Good eye. Aside from the livers I've never given the entrails a second look.

Ya but you'll run into all sorts of surprises when gutting wild animals. You'll even find worms in salmon meat. Just cook it well and you'll be fine.

Rabbits are brimming with parasites. One of the worst game animals for that!

Yeah most types of ground fish can end up with a ton of parasites sometimes.

They're rabbit eggs - they crap them out eventually, and when they find a willing partner to ejaculate on them they will hatch new rabbits....

Shot a rabbit one time and looked like the gut pile was going to crawl away. Havnt had the desire to ever shoot another one.

I've taken several dozen now and never found parasites. Might just Happen in pockets or some populations have higher levels of infestation.

Here on the Island, the Eastern Cottontails and European rabbits have those and also gross parasites that resemble long grain rice.
They are on Schedule "C" in the reg's, I use them for target practice with the 45-70 and 7mm.
Ever since I saw those gross little "stowaways" in the rabbits, I blow'em up and leave them for the garbage ducks.
