Hi all,
thought I would share a quick recap of my first ever deer hunt that turned out to be a success. I was hunting with an experienced buddy who guaranteed to me that I would shoot a deer. Now I was a little skeptical but still had some confidence.
Started the hunt early this past Friday making our way up through Yale. We were in deer territory by about 730. On the way up an old service road we came across 3 does but no sign of any bucks. We hopped out of the truck and went for a hike through to a cut block. As we came down and around a bend, my buddy stopped me and pointed out a buck he could see about 200 yards downhill from us. It was only 8am at this point. I immediately started shaking. He was a thick two point. I got my rifle ready and inched my way down closer towards him. He kept walking straight up towards us. I waited for him to turn broadside and boom. I missed! Off he went😔
I realized that I should've waited because he was coming towards us and he would've been in comfortable range if I gave it a couple minutes.
Anyhow, we spent the rest of the day hiking around through cut blocks without seeing any bucks, just lots of does.
Well about 430 rolled around and we were feeling a little defeated so we packed our stuff back to the truck and made our way out. As we were coming back down to the cut block where we saw that earlier buck, I told my bud to stop and we went for a quick walk.
Well two minutes later, I came around that same bend and he was standing there 10 yards from me. He noticed me and took off quick. My buddy let out a loud whistle and he put the brakes on and turned back around to look at us and BOOM. This time I got him. Shot right through his front left shoulder.
This has been something I've wanted to do forever but never had the help to get into it. I am absolutely hooked and cannot wait to get out there again. If anybody needs a new hunt buddy, I'm here! Lolhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/webkit-fake-url://df819300-f021-4cd9-84b7-b0f2d436f580/imagejpeg
