After 3 years of everything from roadhunting to hiking the alpine, still hunting thick timber probably 50+ days worth of time out there everthing I practiced and learned finally came together and I was able to harvest an awsome buck. Here goes

So having been sick all week and both of us comming off a 10 hour shift my buddie just wasn't into doing a weekend trip but commited to a day out around 7:30 friday night. Another day trip havent lucked out yet but hey why not better than being in the city so after an awsome 2 hours of sleep I woke up 20 minutes before my 2 am alarm and haulled over to abby to meet buddy on route. Quick breakfast stop for burgers and away we go

630 am we hit the fsr suns not out but the guns are and we are in go mode last crack at any buck and still my first so first thing with antlers gets it. We started our morning with our usaual tactic find a good looking cut with cover on both sides and glass.. And glass and well you know glass some more after a half hour of that we walked up the feild along a fence line and spend about another 30 minutes just checking out every tree line in sight nothing so we moved on. Good timing here comes the road crew on their way in so we drove back up the main in search of somewhere else to walk around. Hunted out way to the end of a spur and I turn to buddy and say hey looks clear up there and theres some sign wanna go for a little walk? "You meen a long walk?" we both laughed dumped everything but the essentials feom our bags and headed up the hill top of the hill was a road and a good clearing. DEER it's a doe but you never know whatsup so I stayed watching it my buddie starts walking away from me and I go to ask why were not staying with the doe and spook the good size buck that he was onto almost glad I did because what happend next was pretty cool he stays with the buck on a stalk and I go to follow the doe for a minute just incase well there was a pond we underestimated the size of and now hes in the clearing and Im in the timber seperated so I figured hey why not and sat down to throw out some can calls heres where things got really cool.

Phones almost dead rest of the story after I charge er up.

So Im sitting there for about an hour calling every 15 minutes and all of a sudden I get the feeling Im being watched. I check over my right shoulder and theres the back legs of something large and black ..okay moose out comes the camara and when I stand up he BOLTS. Trees are breaking in the distance and it sounds like a horse on pavement one more step and there goes a bedding cow who was to my left. After a few minutes I start calling again and hear grunting hes hot and heavy. Sweet heres my chance. Well who comes back to wreck my day once again but the bull who shows up at about 15 yards snorting and not only scares the bajebus out of me but seems to have let the deer know I was not a doe. Then I hear my buddies voice getting kind of loud followed by my name so I work my way back out. Turns out I'm not the only one with moose troubles he had a cow comming towards him and had to spook it off. We took a moment to collect ourselves and decided to head back in and still hunt it. Little ways in we let out a second set of calls and buddy for some reason or another decided to let one go while we were walking... Good idea because I would need a video of it to explain what happend next and not sound full of it we hear the thunder of hooves and Im come running right towards us figuring it's the bull were both on edge. Not one but two GOOD bucks my buddies In the front but I steped to my left inadvertently into his lane and he tells me shoot him don't miss I try desperately to get sights on him and can't oh well its a rifle and its on I shouldered it aiming where I figured was just infront and pulled 300 barks 180 barnes to the neck at 5 yards he took one stont and laid down to expire still trying to comprehend what just happend I jack another spooking the second buck who is about as shocked as we are at this point and my buddy tries to get a bead on him finally able to get sight and with the buck at a full run he pulls and..click MISSFIRE no time for another try he grabs the can call from his pocket and triea to get him to stop but Im pretty sure he had figured out what just happend to his buddie and wasent about to turn around and race for that doe a second time my friend comes back and we start to celebrate I just nailed my first buck at 5 yards looking closer at the rack 3x3 someone will have to confirm but if that sticker at the bottom which measures an inch and an eighth counts as his brow it's 4x4. 3 and a half hours later we were at the truck with the thing in our bags. I could not have acomplished this without the incredible moral support of my good friend and his knowledge of hunting. Our hard work and perseverance paid off and got us a seriously awsome buck. Thankyou for reading I hope you enjoy the story as much as we enjoyed the hunt. For everyone who was or is where I was at keep going I don't think I will be able to wipe that grin off for a while.

Do not and I repeat do not forget your rattle set at home. caddisgirl came home with the stomach flu and couldn't come with me... being in a rush to get the heck out of there and not get infected, I left the rattle set at home. Realized it after hitting dirt road... almost went back but didn't.

Congrats again and looking forward to seeing the next buck!!

Yeah I knew it was my year but I was half expecting my buddie to pop one before I saw it or get a spiker this thing was really cool! Can anyone confirm if that sticker will count as his brow tine? it measures an inch and an eighth and the other measures 1 inch exactly from the base.
