Anyone else getting super hyped on the upcoming rut?!?! I know I'm counting down the days before I go try my luck out for a rutting 4pt mule. It's been an OK season for me this year. Had a loss in the family which pulled me out of my elk hunt after 2 days in. Managed to get a decent wt buck last week so I'll hopefully be able to fill the freezer a little more with some (hopefully not too stinky) mulie meat!

Will be posting my story of 2016 sometime at the end of November to bring the meat hunting to a close. It'll be on to yotes, wolves and any other predator I can get a hold of thereafter!

Rut is always a fun time. Saw a fresh rub yesterday. Don't believe the myth of stinky meat. It only gets stinky if you MAKE it stinky by not handling it properly.

Hell ya should be fun...gotta buck and a bear in the freezer, but I'm going to focus more the rest of this year on helping my brother get his first deer, during the rut will be a great time to do it..

Do you mean by not trimming all the fat and silver skin, or getting the funky tarsal gland scent on the meat?

Got a whole week booked off work for the rut hunt. Cant wait. Just picked up a new rifle to edge my odds. Will be in my old stompin grounds in region 3.

Both. Plus not cooling down meat properly, not removing all hair, not dragging through dirt and crap. And, gut shot can taint the meat too.

huge 2pt in town was pushing a doe pretty hard yesterday. He had her cornered by someone balcony and wasn't letter her go.

This guy in the yard looked pretty rutted up. Sure tried to beat up the apple tree. I could smell him from inside the house
