Hey all,

How's the trout fishing around 100 Mile House during April? Any good spots and setups to use on a spinning rod?

Do you have a boat?

No, will probably be shore fishing with waders kind of deal. Maybe a kayak or if I meet somebody with a boat.

Huge TIP..Helena lake on backside...accessed by Wright station rd..rainbows to 12 pounds..I only use flies. .no reason lures, or even bobber and worms won't work...will need a boat.
Cheers
Steven

Lakes in 100 mile will almost be guaranteed to be frozen in april unless we have an extremely mild winter. I have seen ice on lakes up there until the may long weekend some years. Stump lake and Nicola etc are usually better bets early.

AS above, most will be frozen well into April and many into early May. There could be open water around the margins at that time, but it will be "iffy". Stay further south.

Given that this has been a long winter, is ice fishing still a viable option in April? Would the ice still be safe to walk on?

I've had my snowmobile out on the ice in early May before but it all depends on the year and the elevation of the lake. (this was at 4600')

Lots of ice still on the lakes as of a couple weeks ago when I was fishing on Bob lake. Might be a wile yet before ice off.
( fishing was slow on Bob)

Dakota, Ice can be effing dangerous in March, depending on elevation (among other things) As a general rule, if it's melted out along the shore, it's getting dangerous. I lost 2 friends through the ice near Kamloops a few years ago. Safe in the morning, returning in the afternoon, it had softened too much and they both perished in about 8 feet of water less than 50 feet from shore.
A tragic loss.
