Just got back from a bizarre and eventful but ultimately unsuccessful two-nighter hunt. I did find this nifty 5 point shed. Tines have been gnawed and broken up a little bit, but it gives a good idea. This is just outside of the official BT zone. Lots of BT's in the area, but there is the odd muley. Wondering if anyone has any guesses? The base seems a little long and makes me think muley, but the thickness and dense configuration makes me think blacktail.

Also wondering if it might be the buck from this video... unfortunately I only have this guy in velvet and a month and a half worth of growing to do. He is a 5x5 but if I had to guess, it is a different buck as the layout looks slightly different. Shed was found up a little mountain about 2km from where this trailcam footage was taken.

I say blacktail, but just because it's so thick.

I say blacktail, but just because it's so thick. I agree. Thick. But it isn't knotty at the bases. I have found two points fat and thick like that. And they are way in the black tail zone. I have seen mule deer on the east side of Stave lake. So the zone doesn't mean much to me.

The front forks look like a blacktail to me. Looking at my blacktail mount and my sheds, the front forks on them all look similar to the pictures you posted. Looks like east harrison genes to me.

It's obviously a runt. I honestly don't mind looking into it if you want to share the spot...hahaha. to me it screams blacktail because of how thick it is. I hope you kill him and his abusive dad.

I say black tail because the points are short. Just measured one of our racks from this year, the points are 8-9" long. Those are much shorter.

Thanks guys. I guess it's impossible to say for sure without seeing the deer and I am 90% sure it is a different 5-point than the one from our cam last year. I will try to get to the bottom of this by shooting any 5-point I see and then comparing head gear.

Nice find!
Looks like blacktail to me, based on the curved, compact form. I've found 9 blacktail, and 9 mule deer sheds this year. In general, the blacktail sheds I've found are shorter, and more curved than the mule deer sheds. I've got thick and thin samples of both...
