View Full Version : 5-1 youth doe draw help.... too busy at work to scout it :(
Any help on finding a doe in 5-1? I've worked around Sheridan and Deka lake, but never hunted. Not looking for anyone's honey hole just a road or area to try with my 12- year old this weekend. Thank you in advance

Hunt the N Bonaparte road on the southern border of 5-1 down to green lake. Most of the deer have moved out of the Sheridan/Deka area by now
I can work with that. Thank you very much

My coworker had a 4pt and 3x4 in his yard at Deka last weekend. There still around there.
My 3 kids have a 5/02 doe draws and we haven't being able to fill them either :( but we did manage to pull a spiker out :)

Resident deer will still be around, and there are a couple.. But the bulk of the deer that you see all summer (15-20 a day) have migrated
Thanks for the input. Sounds like I should have done this hunt earlier in the year.
we'll go give her a shot and see what happens

lots of deer around in 5-1 until end of nov. they do not disappear. But earlier the better. Hunting during the buck closure would be the best option imo.

Lots of does around Higgins lake still. Take the logging road to the right off the Higgins lake road just before the first cabins. Or try the bottom end of Windy mountain Rd or any of the little logging roads off Horse Lake Rd there's quite a few resident deer around
Well I went robbed early to get that one, Hoss. Will try next weekend.
We stayed in Clinton, got up at 5 out the door by 5:45 ( 12 yr old is like molasses at that hour)
Went in N Bonaparte Rd . Didn't drive too fast as it was way before legal light.
Saw one deer disappearing into the bush around green Lk Rd. Now we are feeling confident.
spent the next 5 hours driving and walking various "deer" looking roads, cuts etc.
We went way too Far East in5-1. No recent deer sign. Saw a cow moose in the bush off a meadow we walked into.
drove back towards 97 to see if we could catch a late moving (11:30 am) deer.
Came upon a fresh gut pile EXACTLY WHERE WE SAW THE DEER AT 6:30 am but other side of the road.
Continued to explore north of Bonaparte N into snowmobile area, couple other roads into cuts.
At at least there was fresh track in the area.
Got some rosy cheeks on the kid and his first moose sighting.
Thanks everyone who wrote, I really appreciate it, I usually don't ask for help and do it the hard way :)
CONCLUSION: for anyone else in the same position: stay WEST (edit) in lower 5-1 this time of year
also: go earlier
