Well not much of a story, but been heading out for a few hours every morning before work. Saturday morning my hunting partner got his buck. Sunday morning I got mine. Some driving, some hiking and some sitting in cut blocks glassing.
This particular fella was about 3/4 of the way up a hill, maybe 150 yards or so. Spotted him, and fortunately had a nice dirt pile for a rest nearby. Got set up and wouldn't you know I couldn't get the fella in my sight picture. First try, nope. Second try, nope. Finally third try I got him dialled in. As I did he started on the move. Got my shot in. Saw nothing. No movement after the shot so I started thinking, maybe he bolted just before I shot. Being unsure, we trekked up the hill to check it out and low and behold there he was in a heap exactly where he was shot. I don't know what the hell angle he was shot at, but seems he got it in the spine, but gutting him looked like a hole right through the lung. Either way, he was down. Not a bad little weekend.
Husky 1600, 30-06, Winchester Super X - 180 grain.

Nice thing about being close to home is having him back at the house hanging from the tractor for skinning. He's holed up in the walk in cooler now.
