Not her first deer, but a decent one!
3X2
120lbs on the hook

I spotted the deer, and told her "shoot THAT one". she took a knee and sent the 130gr VLD 100 or so yards, nailing him. The deer jumped, then took a few steps like a drunk sailor aboard a ship on stormy seas, then fell over.
Thanks to those who stopped by along the road side to see if we needed a hand loading it up in the truck. we got out of there just after dark, and before the rain started back up!

I have seen far more damage from other bullets such as SST or Sierra Game King in the same weight and velocity range. In the past, an SST has almost blown the opposite shoulder off, and a Game King caused a huge mass of jelly on the entry.

Both of us are using 130gr VLD this year, hers in in 270WIN, mine in 270WSM.
Her rifle is a Browning Xbolt Carbon Fiber topped with a Leupold VX3: pushing the 130 VLD at about 2900fps, I dont have a chrony... im basing it on the speed published in the reloading manual.

I have read a lot of posts on here that people do not like the VLD, "prepare for meat loss" comments etc.
During past hunts, it was almost common for a bullet to cleanly pass through the deer, the deer would run some distance.
The VLD works incredibly well.
Bullet enters the deer, and it does not exit. There is no risk of pass through, and potentially injuring another animal behind the target. There is absolutely do damage inside the ribs to the opposite side.
I am sold on the VLD bullets, and will continue using them.
the jelly area is roughly 2 inches by 4 inches

no pass through, absolutely no damage to the opposite side

On my deer, I hit a rib and it shattered 2 of them. There was a little more jelly on my deer than hers. I dont have pics of mine during skinning, and I should have.
