Kelly and I are in our 3rd season and we're finally starting to turn past mistakes into successful hunts. It's amazing how much you learn over a short period of time and it sure feels good when plans come together. So far we've managed to harvest a 4 point muley, a white-tail doe and an absolutely stunning 7x7 bull elk up here in British Columbia. Wow! What a year.
Admittedly, the elk was a result of being in the right place at the right time, but that's all part of it right? The more time you put in, the more likely you are to eventually see something spectacular.
This forum has been an amazing resource for us and we sure are lucky to live in an age where we can connect with so many people that are willing to share advice. Thanks to all of you!
We've been documenting our journey on a podcast which you can check out from the links in the signature. Episodes 18 and 19 detail these last few successful hunts. Cheers guys, and good luck out there!!

Knowing where to be is one of the hardest parts of hunting to figure out for most. Great job and a beauty elk!

Rookie Hunter.....great thread.
The HBC bar continues to be raised thanks to content being posted like this.
WELL DONE

As the quality of content goes up....
As knowledge being shared goes up....
As people look to HBC as a credible source of information to learn from goes up.....
As more hunts being shared goes up.....
As the tolerance for nit picking continues to be marginalized...

Well, that's what drives interest and traffic...... knowing HBC is a healthy environment to share and comment on ....only encourages quality contribution.

British Columbia is arguably the envy of the hunting world.

Hope the attitude and culture of this site continues to grow and reflects/respects/shares our opportunities.

Again Rookie Hunter, great share.

Was that an Island bull elk? or what.
None the less, nice bull for sure, don't see many taken like that often enough.

Congrats guys! You are a a great example of what needs to be done to be successful. Kel, I'm glad you didn't listen to everything the in-law "taught" you, lol. Seriously, guys like him have huge knowledge that even they are not aware of. Continued success to you.

Congratulations guys. Great animals. That elk will be hard to beat, but if your young, single and have no children, you may be able to repeat LOL! Thanks for sharing. These are the stories we come to enjoy on this site.

All of these comments are very encouraging and much appreciated! For those that are following the podcast, we released another episode today that recaps our Kootenay hunt and what we learned from it.
We'll be back at it again next week as Kelly searches for his own Okanagan muley, so hopefully we'll have more good news and some photos to share.
Good luck to all of you and thanks again for all the kind words!

I heard the story on the podcast--good job guys!

Another season and you'll have to drop the "rookie" and call it the "Intermediate Hunter."
