Got a question for the goat experts.... is this a billy? I don't see any junk but horns are much bigger/ wider than those of old mature nannies that I saw hanging out with this one. I think, I know what it is but wanted to get more opinions.
Anyone have an idea about the broken horn?
Any feedback appreciated. Thanks.

Is there another goat behind it? If so, chances are it's a Nanny. Hard to determine in that position though.

No goat behind it in this pic. It was a herd of nannies and kids. But this one seemed to stick out...

Im no expert by anymeans..but id say its a billy. Im really only going by how much mass is at the bases, nannies always seem to be so thin

Another kinkhorn. We whacked a twin to that a couple of years ago. No doubt banged up the horn, these guys are falling off rocks all the time.
Bases kinda close together, fast taper to the one good horn, but as said, tough to judge by this one pic.
Never go wrong when you can watch long enough to see them pee

It appears that it "may" be a billy, but a slight side profile would be needed to be sure.

Not the best quality with my little point & shoot as it zoomed on the foreground but it will give you a good comparison of the mature nanny and broken horn...

Face looks young, can't see any glands but could be the angle. My gut says nanny, either way doesn't scream shooter.

after seeing that, I'd say nanny.
Like last poster, not a shooter for me if it was a billy.

Thanks guys. Agree, not a shooter. That's why I didn't.
Was more about finding out male or female...

My initial gut feeling was nanny. Too narrow on the front end to even be a younger billy. The video makes it look even more like a nanny.

Here's a better quality clip without broken horn but the old nanny on alert.... it's cool to see how she was herding them...
After we put a stalk on them the younger animals were really curious and came over to check us out.

Something everyone should try at least once (especially when still young).
The view (say in the EK), is unforgettable.
It can be a hard go, you may curse every step, and ask yourself what the hell you were thinking etc.
But once up there, everything is forgotten, and it all makes sense.
A sense of accomplishment and utter Aw.

Thanks for all the good comments. It's my first goat tag. I found the herd and have watched them many times. I love the alpine, the harder the access the more rewarding the hunt. Even if I do not get a billy this year it has already been a successful hunt. I put a stalk on them twice, watched them for a long time before they saw me... I also found billies but just outside my LEH zone. 2 more weekends....
