I have never hunted turkey before. This season, I was driving down a road and saw a turkey cross. I was thinking it might be like grouse hunting. Was i ever wrong. I had no idea they run like that!
After 3 encounters, I was finally able to connect on a turkey. Like I said, I have never hunted them before, but I would have to rank it right there with White Tail hunting in difficulty.

That's pretty cool, nice size bird too !!

Whats the best "general area" to hunt Turkeys in BC..........Okanagan, Kootneys ??? I have no idea but would like to try it some day. I've hunted pretty much every region in BC but have yet to see or here a Turkey lollol, where the hell are they all ??

Nicely done.

One of my hunting friends and I have been intrigued by the idea of hunting gobblers for a couple of years, but have yet to connect on a trip. I've done some reading on the topic, and it seems like a fool's folly unless one has access to bird territory on a regular basis.

Getting to know their patterns seems to be high on the list for success.

I saw them in an area the first few times, and thought I could go after them like grouse. They run very fast and are gone the second you get out. I went to the area I had seen them before and waited, and waited and waited.
Being only able to harvest one bird per season, I wouldnt spend any money on one of those fancy "turkey" shotguns. I used an old wingmaster I had taken along for grouse/ducks.
They are a tough bird, even after a devastating head shot, they kick and flap for quite some time. I waited about 15mins before I though I could pick it up with out getting kicked by the spurs.

GOC has a free draw for it. It is a pump action, And holds fourteen rounds. Looks like fun.

Good for you! It looks like a fun hunt, especially in the early season. I've heard it is like hunting whitetails, no room for error.
