Just got back from trip with 2 front quarters and my hunting partner has gone south with rears as I just need burger.
So now meat cutter says can't take the fronts without evidence of sex .WTH
I have transport paper signed by shooter as well as compulsory reporting papers.
Cutters says must have a letter from CO and hunters are now expected to bring in sides of moose.
anybody heard of this new rule??

Debone it / clean up fat and take it to a butcher to grind / wrap / freeze... a different butcher from your first stop.
... "bring in sides" lol

You're supposed to bring the front dick attached to the front quarters

I think your hunting partner hosed ya. Split animals vertically, Not horizontally. Best cuts cime from the hind quarters.

He just wants burger, which makes both hunters happy. ;)

shouldn't be a problem, as you only need evidence of sex until you get it to a meat cutter OR your residence. I sent all 4 quarters to a butcher this year without evidence of sex, but I had the meat at home first.

Butcher might be a little leary cutting just a front of an animal... it's weird. If you have all the papers it should have been cool... but there is also that you're bringing in a piece that he probably doesn't really want to cut, so he's making excuses.

I've always thought you could tell the sex of a animal by the shape of the pelvic bone? We take lots of de-boned moose and deer meat to a place that makes our sausage and pepperoni each year, I've filled out the questionnaire, place, sex etc, and all the meats in 25 pound pails, never had a problem, yet? Must be because it was at my place for a week or so? Or maybe cuz I'm one of "Those" peoples, maybe, Eh?

The regulations dictate on how evidence of sex is to be left attached. If they have to send it to a lab to prove it you could be ticketed.

Maybe that's why moose have two nuts. One for you, one for your hunting partner...
