Hey guys, I'm getting packed for this weekends hunt and just thought i would post my successful hunt last years first weekend in October. Last year i got my first buck, so did my hunting partner and thought a few pictures and a short story would amp up everybody for this coming weekend.
The Saturday was unsuccessful but we had a great day. We saw 20 plus does and hiked a bunch. Sunday started out with a few does in the morning but still no bucks. At about noon we decided to go for a hike into some new territory . 20 minutes later we jumped two small bucks that had bedded down at 20ish yards . BOOM! BOOM! 2 bucks down!!!!
We dragged them out and headed home to butcher. They are not the biggest bucks, and there definitely not the bucks with the good genes. My buck was a spike that i think was suppose to be a 2 point but his antlers got mangled in velvet. My buddy buck was a perfect 2 point on one side and a 2 inch nub on the other. They were definitely goofy deer but they tasted great!

Good luck to all going out this weekend and happy huntinghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u623/ischapansky/IMG_1416_zpsye5zsofa.jpg[/URLhttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u623/ischapansky/IMG_1423_zpsplk25aj4.jpg[/URLhttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u623/ischapansky/IMG_1426_zpsqhy4kg2u.jpg[/URLhttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u623/ischapansky/IMG_3073_zpspnfvtgzz.jpg (http://s1325.photobucket.com/user/ischapansky/media/IMG_1416_zpsye5zsofa.jpg.html)

Hard to blame the genes when it's only 18 months old ;). Good luck out there, gotta love meat in the freezer

How did you hang those deer? Usually back leg rear knee tendon but you've done something I've never seen...curious

Normally I do the back legs lower tendon that it seems everybody does. I didn't have enough height so I looped through the butt. It worked and I could remove all 4 quarter's with out bring the carcass down.

Freezer trophies for sure especially the lightning bolt spiker, Congrats! Plenty of height there to hang from legs, just knock legs off at bottom of knee joint with a knife easily once you find the sweet spot.
Good luck this year!

one thing i notice a lot of people forget to do is skin the ankle down a few inches before hanging so that ankle hair doesn't end up on the deer..most seem to remember to cut off the feet first which i always do as well before hanging...nice little spikers..i would take those meat deer and be happy every time...good job
